How low to go...

  182 Turbo Project
How low can I go before needing to chassis notch?

182 on Vmaxx coilies, running 195/45/15s.

Sorry if it's a dumb question!

The fronts will go super low but you won't be able to drive with it like that, the rears don't go really low unless you have shed loads in the car, I know my rears flew up once it was stripped for instance.

i take it your used to having VW's? Chassis have to be notched to get anywhere near low enough to look good! You shouldn't have to with the clio, but my car has the wishbones touching the subframe. its bumpy but doesnt knock. Aslong as you dont have ay speed bumps then go as low as possible! :D

Why would you want to go low enough to warrant chassis notching?!

Why wouldn't I?

Thanks guys, got some new tyres ordered, due to be fitted friday, then it's getting low. I have decided that I'm not going down the trackday route, as a) I think my car would die, b) I'd sooner buy a MacBook Pro :)

Any pics of uber low?

45's ftw!

You'll get it low enough to scrape over every little speed bump in the country. However, driven spiritedly in my Cup it used to rub on the arches a lot.

My current 172 isn't super low yet, it scrapes over most speed bumps as it is though on the front splitter and exhaust... But I still want the front a bit lower and then I'll be getting 15 or 20mm rear spacers and then 10 or 15mm front spacers depending on what I get on the rear. Then stance will be sorted.

you can go pretty low,
eventually the antiroll bar will hit the chassis rails, after which it wont go any lower, and it will knock like a c**t!

but by this point my bumper was almost on the floor,

mick (white clio van) removed his ARB to go that bit lower (on airbags), but im sure it will ruin the handling of the car,

with the rears, get some custom springs made up, remove the arch liners and go nuts! i didnt go as low as i could on the rear, because it would have been reverse raking!

I like!

Where can I get some custom springs? Anyone know how low the rears go on Vmaxx on the provided springs?

  Ph1 track 172
erm, speak to chewitt (i think thats how its spelt)
he had a batch made up, and i think he still gets them from time to time,
they come up for sale every now and again, best keep your eye out or get him to make you a set,

Vmaxx will be about 10-15mm higher than that, on the supplied springs
providing you take the adjuster plates out for extra lowness lol

I hate BSX's but that looks bloody good on them!!!

I'm on 16's so I won't be that low however, I'd like my front arch gap exactly the same as yours, the rear is a bit too low for me personally.

thankyou :) im pretty sure youre not alone in that opinion, about the BSX i mean, i heinsight i would have saved abit and gone for something abit more rare,
but i did work hard on getting the stance just how i wanted it!

for any kind of performance based car, i would not advise going this low,
it was an absolute back ache to drive more than 30mph,.

good luck with the lowering though dude!

i still have loads off adjustment on rear coil-over :D

this is as low as it will go, wheels h'actually go in this far with people in over bumps as it scrapes inner arch, rear bumper tags worn away :D

and i live in the middle of know where, car gets rallied about, jumps etc, no issues with sumping out or scraping speed bumps.
perfect height imo :D

I've never had any rubbing. But I've never had arch liners in, so who knows!

Obviously if your wheels poke out you might need to sand back the bumper tags slightly...

Change of plan. Plus I want to buy a MBP :)

You could do both.

If your just wanting to go low, i'd suggest buying a non sport, maybe one that already has the RS bumpers, since you wont be going anywhere fast anyway

yeah ill swap mine and ill even chuck in a c spanner, theres still 50-70mm left to go on my coilies :D

Sorry matey but unless you're an absolute faggott you can still go as quick as anything else (apart from trophys :p), you just have to have a little more talent to keep it on track. Granted it wont be anywhere near as good as It could be, but it will still handle ok.

Here's a pic of my ph1, running vmaxx coils and custom 65mm rear springs with a fully stripped out rear

I think it was the shafts that used to rub on mine when that low, I know the bottom of the car used to scrape the floor just going on flat roads but I didn't really care, its all good.

I think you should have a good think about it before you go that low, I scraped the exhaust on the trophy just pulling out of your car park and believe me if you like your exhaust/ splitter you better be preppared for them to take a battering, I used to catch my bumper on the slightest incline

How did you get the stance so good mate?

a while of adjusting,
the rears are custom 90mm springs,
but its sat on bump stops, so i moved it up and down for weeks until i was happy!

no rubbing on the front or rear,
et38 wheels with 30mm spacers on the front,
and 25mm spacers on the rear,
165/50/15 tyres

there is no room between the tyre and the arch, cant get your finger between them, but its sat on bumpstops so it doesnt go down at all!

  182 Turbo Project
I can still go plenty fast enough with it being as low as it is! Anyways, its a 70 limit on M'ways :)

Chris, do you reckon 65mm is enough for teh lowz? Oh and the drive, yeah, you have to go right up the right hand side to not scrape, its a f**king stupid drive, goes up to a point in the middle. Where did you get your custom springs from mate?

I just dont see the point in paying extra for a sport, when your going to make it unusably low :S

I'd go non sports, look at bifcaids (think thats his name) car, that was non sport, and he did all the slamming stuff and it looked good without the initial expense of the sport, same with that tom guy with the blue one.

It's not unusably low :) Plus I don't take the car on back roads etc, I do pretty much all of my driving on the main roads or motorways.
