How much Air Conditioning gas by Weight in a 1*2's system

I Re-gassed my Air con yesterday as it was running warm.

It pulled 0.007 under vacuum and as I was unsure how much the system held I based it on the average I’ve used in other vehicles of 0.55 (Probably more like 0.45 taking in to account the machines lines holding gas).

Can anyone confirm the correct volume by weight that the system holds, as if it needs some more ill run a a bit more weight in to the system.

On the upside the car is lovely and cold now :p

just to check this.

is it 700grams total (including the 100gram for lines)

or

700gram plus 100gram for lines making 800grams total?
thanks
Phil

No, set the machine to put a total .10 (100g), this will give the system .70 (70g) that is required.

Unless you have a machine that fills with the amount and recovers from the lines after..

The machine recovers the from the lines back into the bottle though, not the car ( well at least the SUNN we use does)

According to Autodata, 710G + or - 35G. that's correct, done loads here at that amount and never had a problem.

(SBV116, works account!)

You do realise if you have to re-gass your unit then you have a leak? Unless of course it's been removed and refitted.

Not quite mate, if the air con is not regularly used then the gas can leak, particles are small enough that they can leak past the system joints and even through the pipes themselves.

The Aircon machine (the one I used) generates a vacuum in the system and holds it measuring the stability of the held vacuum for a given time indicating if the system will hold pressure and therefore if there is a leak.

My system was very low on gas simply through lack of use, since gassing it holding temperature and having popped a bit more gas in it had not lost any.

A leak then?

Depends how you perceive a leak.

I'm classing a leak as a stone through the condenser.

Say you have a brand new car in a show room that has never turned a wheel and was left there for 3 years without the air con being used.

Measure the content of the system day one vs day 1095 the gas volume will have dropped considerably.

It's not a 'leak' its just natural wastage due to the chemical composition of the gas.

That's why when you dont use it for ages when you eventually do use it it doesn't work.. The last 4 I have done have had little refrigerant in but never had a leak..

It escapes, ie a leak. If you use it it won't escape as it will of course keep seals/o rings etc lubricated. Putting new gas in won't fix the leak, the o ring or seal will still be perished slightly. Of course it will escape slowly but it will escape.

They aren't built to have a small leak so it means there is a leak. I've studied Air Con in cars for 10 years now and worked alongside one of the most knowledgeable air con guys in the country.

Ok, will agree to disagree, likewise being in the trade I've experience so not a novice either.
