How much is a new diff for 172

more likely cheaper to get a reconditioned gear box. im sure there are some on ebay for about £400, or get a second hand one for £200 and use the diff in your box.

I'll have a spare 172 diff in a couple of weeks time. You might not want to wait that long though.

it'll be your circlip popped out. normally involves a new box to sort it properly as the groove for the circlip gets worn and it pops again. some people weld the clip in with decent results. Probably worth trying welding it and accept you need a new box if it goes again.
