How much power is lost through transmission??

A friend of mine has just had a great result with his EP3 Type R.

A couple of mods and he's reached 193BHP at the wheels. He's over the moon obviously. Really nice car he has too!

We were talking about how much power is lost through transmission before it reaches the wheels.

Anyone have any more info on this?

Cheers

  182, SQ7, Trafic
WHP! Lol!

That's more than likely his flywheel HP.

Typical loss on a FWD car is around 15%

That's what I thought originally mate.

But his power run was done at a place called TDI and apparently they have a machine which bolts to the hub (with the wheels off obviously) to measure WHP.

hub dyno's measure horsepower at the hubs, so the losses are even lower. It can't be an at the wheels figure, because there are no wheels bolted on at the time, and the rotating mass of the wheels causes a loss. TDI's figures at the hub are very close to SRR's flywheel figures

Oh really.. Thanks for clearing that up then Dan!

Interesting to know!
