How much should I charge to clean a Escort Van with Rotary?

  ph1 172 Black
It's for a mate. He wants to pay me so how much should I say? Bear in mind I need to buy new sponge and compound.

what isit just mop all over?

i usually say £40-£50 n some beers or food. 2 hours or so job.

im sure the geeks on here will say £100+ with their girly pc's, but its an escort van not a lambo.

Alex do you mean PC it?
i could do with my car doing, its hammered with swirls, you any good?!

Not PC rotary. PC is safe where as you can make a right mess with Rotary if you don't know what your doing!

James £34.56 what would that be including VAT.

Like you say Escort van. Lot easier than my black ph1

This is a Fiat Scudo before:

alex will this rotary get rid of some scratches and swirl marks in black paint?!
if it will how much to do a clio!?

It will easily get rid of scratches and swirls but the problem is you can end up adding micro swirls. Have to do it in levels and is tricky with black cause of the deepness of the shine.

Will have a chat with my mate. Thing is we haven't got a tool to test depth so if it's been done a lot before could go through paint!

Don't mind on mates van but it's on your head if your paint is too thin.

Done paint on a black Megane, green MX5, and a Scudo van recently and it all went well mind.

im not too fussed about it being 100% spot on, its just got a lot of swirls and little sctratches basically all over the car which piss me off, and since im guessing you are near-by ish just thought i'd ask!

from the state of the paint i wouldnt say it has been done before...

Ok. Were you looking to come to Mansfield and have it done or for it to be done at yours?

My mate is an ex valeter and he does the work. I'm like the hired help.

He's thinking of setting up mobile so I'll have a word and see what he says. Obviously I want him to do it for you as a black Clio is a little more than a white van in terms of final finish that were looking for.

Would of thought he would say around £50 plus materials.

if im honest, i may get flamed, but never goto a car worrying about the thickness of the paint. the paint will be fine. the only problems you should be looking at is edges of wings/doors etc.

ive never ever burnt through the paint other than down a wing edge or 2 when i first started. i did do a small burn on a reversed dent of a van once which was virtually invisible. it was like something and been loaded into the van and it had dented it from the inside

only way you can burn through paint with a rotary is if you dont keep it flat, if you spin it too much of an angle the actual pad will do a nasty burn which more often than not cant be flatted out.

so dont worry about it.

Thats true but I didn't mean burning through. I meant the paint thickness. If it has been polished a load of times before and there is a thin patch of paint you can go through it.

Not burn through. End of day to remove paint you are cutting paint back.

yep, paint thickness, too thin, burn through to primer.

more likely to get electrocuted and die from using the rotary than burning through the middle of a panel UNLESS you seriously are an idiot lol

I have to agree with FM, I've pansied about with PC's because of the so call depth of paint.
Took the car to a mate who runs a body shop and he used a rotary plus a "supposed" harsh cutting compound and said not to be a girl about it as he's done enough Renaults to not do any damage. Said you would have to be a complete idiot to c**k it up lol

For a mate I would'nt charge them, if it is the case you need to buy things just let him now that.

The main issue for me re the rotary is not the risk of using them as long as your sensible they are fine. You have to try bloody hard to burn through paint. The problem with them is 99% of people using them can not leave a perfect finish with one, leaving holograms or in some cases a deeper haze in the paint with them.
