How to clean my wheels and tyres...

Any help you can give would be amazing...

I've got Turinis in shiny black, but struggle to stop them looking brown from brake dust.

I have used wonder-wheels on them, but still doesn't really do much more than shampoo!

So, a full process that you guys go through would be great. I'm looking to clean then up to mint standard, wax (or whatever) to make them shiny again, then seal it all in so it's easier to clean next time.

Oh, and my tyres look brown against the wheels, how can I make them look black again?

Personally i would do the following.

I would wash the wheels with a mix if megs gold glass and megs apc mixed 4:1 for the first time only.

Then after rinsing i would clay the wheels using megs last touch as the quick detailer for a bit of lubrication.

Then i would re wash the wheels only using megs gold class this time.

Dry

Then i would polish them using autoglym super resin polish, buff off .

Then seal them with autoglym extra gloss protection, allow to cure for an hour then buff off.

The sealent i would then use is poorboys wheel sealent, i would apply 3 coats of that.

As for the tyres i would scrub them with the same mix of megs gold class and the megs apc cut 4:1 , rinse then allow to dry and would then dress them with either megs endurance tyre gel or some blackfire tyre gel.

You need to get out more...

I would use some fabric cleaner, leave it to soak for 5 minutes or so. Then Pressure wash off (from a safe distance).

Chamois off, tyre slick.

Where can I get all this shizzle from? Can't see any autoglym stuff on cleanyourcar.co.uk?? Yes - i am lazy, and want to order it all from one place....

Do i need anything to break down the caked layers of brake dust? It's pretty stubborn!!!!!!

If Wonder Wheels is not touching the baked on brake dust, Meguiars APC is not going to do anything. You may need to look into something more potent still, which is a hard one as Wonder Wheels is on of the harsher wheels cleaners out there - you may need to look into something like Meguiars Wheel Brightner.

The Autoglym stuff can be picked up easily at the likes of Halfords.

My wonder wheels is about 7 years old though - probably time i bought some new stuff!

I would be relectuant to use harsh stuff think your best off trying SRP first before all that. just to see if it can be polished off

Proper baked on brake dust won't be touched by SRP, if it is really bad there is rarely anything other than an acid type cleaner that will touch it. Used as a one of and then the wheels repolished after should not be to big a problem. It is when you end up doing it week in and week out.

I remember using acid based cleaners in my youth and wondering why the finish looks so dull. Now my wheels have as much gloss as the paintwork would not dream of using them on my own wheels!

Wd40 is quite good at dissolving thge brake dust and crap off the wheel, take it off first though
