How to fit 16v spoiler to RT

i know itd need some sort of adhesive but whats the strongest stuff to use? and ideally it needs to be clear

i used silicone sealent on my old rt, just taped it on till it had gone hard then took the tape off, only weant to of been a quick fix but i left it on... in the end it was a tw*t to get off when i sold thecar, really strong stuff. wipe any excess off before it sets.

i just used araldite. i havent found anything stronger. i stuck it on, after cleaning the rubber strip with white spirit (not on paint work mind). and clean the paint. then just stick it on. Holding down the ends so that they sit flush to the rubber was the only tricky bit.

all i did was attach bungy chords from the valver spoiler to the slightly opened sunroof, and some more leading down to the boot handle area, and let if for about a day.

job done.

that would do it, but silicone allows it to b removed without shagging it up, and gives it a little flexibility.

aradite i mega strong but u dont wanna muck up the boot if u take it off!

im serious bout the bath sealant, its a rubbery silicone based sealant which will help onto the spoiler nicely and can easy be removed

we do loads of sealants at work, i work at wickes but avent been there very long and know NOTHING about d.i.y, lol, how im working there ill never know. ill av a look tomora to see what would be best. cheers 4 the help lads

ive bought a valver spoiler, and some waterproof sealent/adhesive (is WHITE so needs to be under the spoiler and not on the edges... we sell clear bath sealant at work but it doesnt say it is an adhesive so didnt wana use it... would he clear sealant work? id rather use it than this white (but very strong!) stuff!

also, when i placed the spoiler on top of the boot, on the rubber bit, it doesnt line up right. so i can either position it so theres a gap on the roof side of the spoiler or a gap on the boot side of the spoiler (the two bits on either side that go down the side of the window slightly). surely i need to do the latter as if i have a gap on top the wind will tear it off???

silicone sealant is what they are talking about above. it comes in various colours including clear.

personally id probably use tape as was used originally - go to renault an see what they use or a body shop. silicone sealer should work fine though

isnt the stuff ive got silicone? its called ultimate sealant/adhesive and its white, not really like silocone... should i have bought clear bath sealent? i dont know if either of these are sealants...

where can i buy exactly what you mean???

i think what youve got is probably going to be fine.

i recently bought silicone sealant from local harware shop - literally just said silicone sealant on it and also from hyper value

cost about 1.50 from hyper value and 2.80 from hardware shop

will the sealant be visable though? i dont think it will but im not too sure. i just wana make sure its gonna be right!

just took these pics holding it on with my hand, will it look ok like this? the corners will stick out slightly but i cant see how i can avoid it unless i bend em which i doubt ill do well

yeh its one dirty clio lol. the corners wont stick out that much when its in place properly but u can see what i mean

Orignally they used two bolts that fitted inot the seal and sticky double sided tape to fix them onto the 16v

u mean bolts into the sealant? or an actual seal? i can see bolt holes, might wack some sealant underneath the holes and put a bolt thru... sticky tape could work too

There was a special bracket that fixed to the spoiler i think, think the hole it located inot was behind the sela on the rear window, dunno if that is the same for the non willy tailgates

ok. ill give it a go on sunday anyway, see what happens. just hope i dont get sued when my spoiler flies off on the motorway and totals some poor b******s car
