I READ AN ARTICLE ABOUT THE NEW CLIO 182 WHICH SAID RENAULT GOT THE EXTRA 10BHP FROM CHANGES TO THE CAT AND INLET MANIFOLD. CAN U BUY THE MODIFIED MANIFOLD ANYWHERE TO FIT THE CUP? WILL IT MAKE MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE?

To make use of the 182 parts you need:

New TB, £150-300+
New Exhaust (whole thing) £1000+ (i kid you not)
Boot floor removal, new rear bumper
New ecu map £dunno?
Not really the best route to tune a 172 is it.

182 is 179BHP standard figure.... if you cant squeeze that out of a 172 with a bit of work somethings wrong!! although loads of 172s are way down on the quoted figures it ould seem.

Bit dissapointing that renault only managed a few extra horses IMHO

There is a new throttle body as well.

Not worth doing the Renault mods though 182 hp can be reached for less IMO.

The parts and order numbers for Renault sport parts can be got from the cup racing teams and maybe Renault UK dealers. The parts are listed below. Some of them are not 182 parts though there group N ones

Inlet manifold : 8200 251 605 (same as on Clio 182 Bhp) it was designed for cup racing by RenaultSport in France in 2002. Should costs about £130 Bugger to change I think Nick Hill does the conversion adds about 5hp on its own.

Exhaust Orbisound : 7711 151 188 Costs about £600

Ecu : 7711 151 295 Not the same as Mk2 ones I belive as Cup racers use a MK1 one throttle body ie no DBW

Cam are different. It´s a difficult to drive at low revs drive so not worth it for day to day drive ability. Although cams and chip give ~190 Bhp and the torque from 4500 is ~240NM

There is a parts catalog for group N mods the code is 7711 156 400 its the parts used in the group N cup series

If you change manifold, airfilter (K&N insert with moded coldair intake), exhaust and ECU you will get around 188 Bhp

The offical press release for the 182 said the Clio had

An exhaust manifold and catalytic converter changes

Sorry intake manifold costs £276+ VAT from Renault UK although some people have said its £175. Also it will cost to have it fitted.

The old code for the part is 7700 108 193

The part code for the group N manual used in the Cup racers is 7711150216 the above manual number I belive relates to the 1600 series racers

Rsport Uk wont sell some parts so try rsport in dieppe and order them tel 0033235828166

agreed Ben

you should see the original grp A carb kit for the 5 GTT, was originally about £250 + from renualt.... and most of it you can create with the right tools anyway

Nick Hill modified my inlet manifold, and a very good piece of work it is too (after Nick tinkered with it that is. Bloody awful before - mis-cast and mis-matched!). AFAIK, the 182 retains the same throttle body as the 172s.

Ive also got full exhaust system and de-cat, so I guess the cars going to be somewhere around the 182 mark....
