How to pop, without the map..

  182cup & 172 racecar
At work we used to have an old Morris Minor van, we used to go down the high st in 2nd, lift off and turn the ignition off at the same time, wait for as long as possible, then turn the ignition back on.........BANG!! used to made people scream. Great fun.:approve:

Used to do that on my carbed motorbike when I was 17. Lol
works better if you don't lift. Draws more fuel and air through.

Used to be able to do that on most carb'ed cars, now you have injectors, turning the power off also stops fuel being injected :dapprove:

I ran it on mine prior to the RS2 for a while. It was funny at the time, but I love it when the car makes the occasional bang on upchanges now.

well my car is booked in for Saturday to get the straight through pipe to replace the centre silencer. I'll post a wee video of the result when its fitted! Then the same again when I get the p&b installed..
gonna be pretty much a straight through pipe from the manifold to the backbox!

I think i'll be able to hear that... in Scotland.

2 things will happen, you will change it within a month due to utter annoyance and you will also be stopped at least 3 times by the police. Neighbours and family will also hate you but you already know that.

I do remember the first time I heard a car with the backbox removed, MGZR, thought it sounded like a lambo!

That wasn't my point. It was more an addition to the post.

Possibly, i'm in Scotland too.. The pipe will be detatchable, so if my family decide to start 'hating me because of the noise of my exhaust' then i'll be sure to remove it.
and yeah, i think removing my backbox is a little different to removing a small centre silencer..

But i'm gonna give it a go, see what i think :)

I know its not for everyone, but hell, it might be for me!

You need an RS Tuner module to put it on the car.

License is about 60 quid, map is about 40 quid (check on the fast chips site)

so its about 100 quid you have to pay to fast chips, assuming you know someone with the module who will do it for you, thats them not making a penny though.

+ another £60 to unlock it back onto the owners car.

I had a straight through and never got stopped used it for 3 years, neighbours won't complain to me as they think I'm a nutter but its really not for everyone and it can be full on at times lol

Yeah i'm not too worried about getting stopped, it's unlikely!
And my neighbours won't complain either, it's not like i sit in my runway a rev my engine!

Is it miss-timed or just basic over-fuelling? Which okay might kill a cat but isn't really going to affect MPG, my car came from the factory with overrun pop and crackle with no adverse affects.

That surprises me actually, standard cats and pops don't mix lol!!

My/Dan's old VX ate a Cat and 2 lambda sensors in such a short space of time lol! I'm sure it was because the map was overfuelling so badly!

It doesn't need unlocking back to the other car, once memorised with a car it'll remain memorised.

Not according to Henk. I asked him this explicitly. I'm not saying your wrong, but if someone could confirm this it would be helpful.
Perhaps he did not understand my question. Perhaps you have confirmed it yourself (i.e. used it for mapping the previous car without problems, not just using the diagnostics)?

Im with Dan on this one i also spoke to henk about doing multiple cars with one module . He told me that you will only need one liscence per car.

Once you have unlocked it to another car, you just re enter your unlock code and it locks it back to your car.

I never got round to actually doing it though .:(

Henk said you can have multiple licences on one machine. Does that mean you only need to buy the map once? Saving to be had?

I had a 1.1 Peugeot 106 and my Saxo VTS that both Popped, the 106 had a pin prick hole in the manifold and tricked the car into thinking it needed more fuel and that popped like crazy on demand when letting the revs fall after 5k, it still had its cat! and got through its MOT fine.

The saxo was a beasty pop which only occured after replacing the CAT with a straight through pipe, I couldnt control it though it just happend when driving hard.

Cant you get kits off ebay to make cars pop? Im sure ive seen some about

No offence to anyone, but the videos of pop and bang equipped Clios that I have seen on YouTube are embarrassing. Proper pikey.

Pops, crackles and bangs, are cool on a high powered turbo motor, but on a regular Clio it's cringeworthy. Only IMHO of course.

its juvenile and funny for a bit. had it on mine and one of the most fun things you can do in your clio, even the mrs thought it was halarious and always wanted a go.
left it on for a track day and it was embarrassing. took it off after that

All of the above

Pop/bang is almost as try-hard as sump-grinding suspension.

I'm pretty sure even the land-whales at a Toby Carvery won't give you finger bangs just because of your fuel-dumping, MOT-failing, cat-killing chav-mod

Get a V8, or at the very least a 5-pot of some sort, then your car will make a good noise all the time. You can't polish a turd and 4-pot engines all sound turd....unless you can get 10k of revs through them.

Hmm, like the others above I knew that you'll be able to do diagnostics on Car1 without buying another unlock code after having used it on Car2... but I thought to re-remap Car1 you'd be needing to buy a second unlock code.

He must have misinformed me then. What you have said though sounds a bit odd though as the unlock code is related to the previous car, not the new car your putting it onto, unless he has told me that incorrectly too? I'm sure Chip has confirmed that for me before though...

As far as i'm aware, only the p&b maps are locked to the ecu. That's why people are able to sell/swap the RON98 map with the VCI's without problems. I for example, have flashed a second hand version of the RON98 map without problems (even though I don't think its upto par with my p&b map, that's a different matter though).

V8's sound amazing yes, but straight 4s also sound pretty good imo. I think the F4R sounds lovely with an aftermarket induction kit or even better, itb's. Its far from a 'turd'.

It's just my opinion but I just find 4-cylinders to sound, well, rough.

There are some exceptions that come to mind, but in the main just making them louder doesn't make them any better. The F4R isn't the worst, but there are nicer, such as

An Alfa Twin-Spark
Subaru Flat-four
S2000 or Type-R's at full-chat
4-pot bikes pulling 12k

My view is heavily stilted by having had the MX-3 as my second car after starting with an Corsa nonturbo-Diesel though. Probably explains a lot :)

No, I completely agree 99 percent of 4's sound gash! Vtec units are quite tidy sounding IMO but I know they aren't everyone's cup of tea.

6 or 8 is the way forward!

Well i've used about £20 of petrol already today popping my new exhaust.. Don't care what anyone says, i love it! Haha
