How to Reset ECU on 1.2 16v

Mate of mine has a 1.2 16v and the engine management light keeps coming on and putting the car into get you home mode. It often resets on its own if he turns it off and on again. Its been doing it since new and the car is now out of warranty.

Typical Renault it has been in loads of times under warranty yet all they ever did was reset it and change a few things but never fixed the underlying cause.

Now it is out of warranty and he doesnt want to pay to get it reset every other week.

Can he just disconnect the battery? Will that do it?

It MAY reset it but it doesnt always work.

What he really needs to do si find out what the problem is !
