huge install !!!

hiya me again i was wondering if any1 could give me some advice as im gtin ready 2 put a big install in my campus sport :D :D :D :D
i have been looking at a number of brand and i have decided on getting Alpine i was wondering if anyone could help me on what Amplifier i should get for:

what Amplifiers should i get ? is it the most powerful??? i have no idea !!!! HELP !!! PLZ !!!money isnt a bugget for the Amp/s cheers

Oh, and just so you know - look for power in RMS, not Peak or Peak Maximum or whatever - RMS is the true figure, the rest are bullshit Max power figures ;) lol

Match the RMS figure on the amp to the RMS figure off the subs....so 2000watts or 2x 1000watt amps!! You can have the amp power being smaller but it wont show the subs at their full potential and i wouldnt recconmend getting a too powerful amp as it might blow the subs!!!

if you are defiant on type X subs, its 1000wrms and its a dual 4 ohm voicecoil.

You could wire this to show a 2 ohm load, so you are looking at an amplifier that will do 1000wrms @ 2ohm. This would mean you would need 2 amplifiers, 1 per sub woofer. To keep it alpine, you could get 2 Alpine MRD M1005 amps. however a pair of these is going to cost you over £500!

An alternative would be to buy an amp that does 2000wrms @ 1 ohm, and power BOTH subs off 1 amp, a 2000wrms amplifier is going to cost around £400+

I had 2 alpine Type X subs, and I Wasnt THAT impressed TBH. Since buying 2 PBX subs I have been much happier.

You also need to consider a decent wiring kit (id look at 0 gauge!) And possibly some sound deadening.

Any thing else you need give me a shout.
 
Kiza - Oooooor....

look at it this way - get an amp that is more powerful than the sub.

That way, you can get the maximum out of the sub without caning the amp and causing it to clip or run too hot :cool:

As an analogy - would you rather be screaming the tits off a metro at a ton or cruising at 2000rpm at a ton in a beemer M3 or something? :)

From my expeince, The type X's are quite fragile when running 1kwrms.

Secondhand amps would be cheaper though if you were happy to go down that road - you could get a couple of Rockford Fosgate BD1001's, or even just get one and bridge it to 1ohm - they seem to run fine even though they're not rated to 1ohm!

Or perhaps a Blaupunkt Burning Desire 2? Think they do 1750wrms @ 1ohm?

Both the above are only about £250 secondhand :)

Exactly, second hand stuff is the key ;)

Jenko has pM'd me looking at the latest and greatest small foot print alpine amps, which are £700+ and only put out 1kwrms!

If you buy off somewhere reputable (like talkaudio) you can be virtually guaranteed that they will have been looked after and do actually still work :)

You can stack them up etc etc, Ive used a smaller 500wrms version and its a beautiful piece of kit, but i couldnt help thinking i could have got an alternative 500wrms amp + sound deadening + wiring + a crate off stella for after the install.

Jenko, I'm by no means an expert, I owe all ive learnt to Talkaudio, but give me a budget and I should be able to sort you out.

I'm kinda sponsored by a distributor for Powerbass Xtreme, I can even sort you some direct discounts for some high end stuff if you want?

just in ref from wiring, imo 0 AWG wiring is going to be too thick i think for the kind of power your putting through 4 AWG will be fine, and alot cheaper.

yeah but just makes it more difficult to work with, it not so easy to feed through holes and hide in installs, i think my bf is using 0 AWG

even the most efficent class d's are going to draw about 180A @ full tilt

its really not a pleasent sight, and when wiring into amps and things becomes abit of a pain especially when your not experienced with it all, but hey hoo i guess its up to them

he is running 2krwms!! well according to alpine amps :)

Just do Zero gauge to a dizzy block, 4 gauge to amps, :) 0 gauge for his earth to a dizzy. Then Earth his amps to the dizzy block using 4 gauge.

I'm very tired, i dont think my sentences are strung together correctly, The girlfriends gone on the tiles and has forgot her key!

Just remember what i said regarding importing. You will not have a garentee, and could be hit with income tax.

the type x stuff is good however you can get a lot more for the cash TBH

Taylor if he is even getting close to 1kw RMS he should use 0 guage cable. Its not safe to be using 4 at this sort of pull, I would go no higher than 120 amps with 4 guage!

As for amps I went for a class D and hated it - the sound is slightly false tbh sa back to A/B for me.
