Fine. I have had one Clio 1.2. It has been the most reliable car any member of my family has ever had. Ok, I had a bit of a dispute with Renault over warrantees, and the like, and the pop-up sunroof rattles in spite of being repaired 3 times. But in the grand scheme of things... its not important. Saxos may be good and reliable, but the insurance is too high for three reasons:
1. (No offence to you) Too many are driven by utter t**sers, recklessly.
2. They are a favourite of car thieves and joy-riders
3. They fare very badly in accidents.
Regarding point three, and someone else has already said it, Clios hold their shape very well, in accidents, and Saxos dont. As a former member of the Police, I have seen a number of car accidents, and there are always exceptions, but generally the safety of the Citroen cars is pretty rubbish.
I think it very much depends on how you treat a car too. Treat it like something you have just spent £12,995 on. It isnt a £150 Nova. Therefore it should not be treated as such. If you want to rag a car silly and then blow it up... go for the Nova type. If you want a car that will last and offer you comfort, performance (to a point), and that you will treasure, and look after, and cry if you get a paint chip, then go for the Clio. You cant beat it. Besides the Saxos days are over... and it has been replaced by that horrible thing that is very much a middle aged womans car. (no offence to middle aged women)
