  Mk2 Ph1, 1.6 16v Clio


Hi guys,

So I went today with my girlfriend and to cut a long story short - i managed to get the car back to sunny York! Heres a few pics!

Is the boot spoiler like that a standard one? And the side skirts?
and i presume the leather is an optional extra too?

Anyway , hope you like it! I am putting my old alloys on instead of these IF THEY FIT! I had them on a 1.4 RT kreg clio - will they fit?

They are 4- stud 15" Softline 5-spoke alloys (like TSW Stealths i guess).

the skirts arent standard

the leather isnt standard

i hope uve informed the insurance of these mods?

Thats a Mk2 Ph1 1.6 16v "RSi" isnt it? If so, the leather was a factory option and is kosher.

The rear spolier and skirts were also Renault options, but dealer-fit only and werent standard on any models. You can still get those skirts and that spoiler as dealer options, even on the Ph2/3 Mk2 Clio.

it was f**king fantastic driving it back from Manchester to York up the M62. Id have loved to do the Snake Pass though over to Sheffield (my home town).

Never had above a 1.4 motor before - and i was pleasantly surprised by this one. I had been in my mates Valver years ago but hes since had avery car in the book and now owns a Impreza 22B (one of 400 made!) so it pretty much ruins every car i get as ive already experienced so much faster with his stuff!.

I love it though - the leather really sets it off. Im gonna check it in next week for a full service and check-up just to get niggly stuff out the way and start its service history up again. Hopefully it will be mechanically sound apart from a few niggles.....(fingers crossed!).

well actually in the Mk2 clio an RSI is the same engine (1.6 16v) as this one. The old shape (Mk1) Rsi is a different story.

no the old rsi was 1.8 8v, the mk2 is a 1.6 16v. The new model was called the 16v, then rsi, and now i think theyre just dynamiques etc.

hehe thx. I knew the skirts werent standard as such but wasn;t sure about the boot spoiler.

SO do we think then that they are all optional extras? if so my insurance company said they werentt too bothered. its if ive added them (or someone else has) after they bought it that they are bothered.

so whats the verdict? Oh and errr will those alloys fit? can ANYONE tell me? basically im asking if alloys that fit on a mk1 1.4t clio will fit on this one ok?

The Mk2 RSi is a 1.6 16v engine, which is also used in the current range. The Mk2 RSi was originally called the "16v" (disgrace to Mk1 16V!!), but changed to RSi when the 172 was first released.

Alloys should fit no problem, they didnt change the stud pattern, just make sure the offset is ok.

They all look like they are either dealer-fit options or factory options.

The skirts and spoiler are renault items. Dont for get to mention they were fitted buy the dealer.

About the offset....How do i check it and know its right? sorry for being dumb - its a long time since i messed around with alloys!

Ill let the insurance know everything about the car now i know what they are exactly. The car is off-road at the minute at my girlfriends parents....i miss it already! Im urprised how fast it is. Obviously you lot with Valvers and cups etc will think its slow but to me its like a rocket! hehe

Mate it is rated 0 - 60 mph in 9.3 that aint slow. Fair play to you, you got a nice car there. I am trying damned hardest to get a 172, 1.4 just doesnt cut it any more!

thx lads. Its got a quite a few stone chips and a very small dent in the bonnet, also a few key-scratches on the bott near the lock but apart from that its mint! My girlfriend gonna take it to a garage for a full service this week so I can make sure its mechanically sound!

Its a shame the alloys I have to put on it are only 15" ones but they MUST look better than the ones that are on it now!? heh.

Anyone know what tyres i can get away with? I was thinking of 195/45/15s. I THINk it has 185/60/14s on the standard rims at the minute.

Also, does anyone knows what offset it needs to be and how to find out what it is on the 15" alloys im gonna put on?
