Just spent 3.5 hours trying to install a version of Enterprise Linux onto a Dell 1U PowerEdge 1950 and couldnt understand why the fook it wasnt working..

verified the MD5 hashes..
tried CD install..
NFS install..
HTTP install..

and was about to set up a PXE server..

Then I realised I downloaded ia64 instead of x86_64... f**k f**k f**k !!!!

ive now got the x86_64 images on an NFS server and am installing it now ..

Couldnt figure out why the boot.iso image wouldnt even boot lol

CentOS actually.. its for a repository and they dont want to splash out on RHEL4 until they know its worthwhile (the repository software not the OS ;) )

Its one of those things where its so simple you dont even think to check it.. then a few hours down the line it dawn on you lol.. the server is now fully installed and configured with the repository software on it now..

Now you've used CentOS for a bit, how similar is it to RHES?

Good? Bad?
I presume the Dell supplied software etc.. all work as expected?

The only difference is the logo's and trademarks.. as you know they are built from the same sources so they are gonna be identical ..

Yes software for RHEL4 behaves exactly the same with no probs on CentOS.
