I could cry!

Car  Clio 172 Cup
My cup got its 24k service today. Turns out it needs new rear brake discs, pads and some sort of rubber boots or something??!! Total bill £406! I'm in tears!
Does anyone think thats overpriced or is it reasonable?

Just pay for the service and buy the bits and either fit them yourself or get someone else to do it. Rear discs arent rocket science and Renaults labour rate is normally a pisstake.

It's not just the parts rate it's the fact they claim it'll take 3 times longer than it actually does to do a job.

get a mate or someone to fit the brake discs. renault are a pisstake. i never take my car to them because they dont have a clue about my car.

Very true, its a half an hour job in a workshop with all the tools (if that long tbh) yet no doubt they'll say it take 1&1/2 hours.

When they say rubber boots, do they mean tyres?

Buy the pads etc elsewhere and get them fitted somewhere cheap, any dealer will rip you off on the labour.

Get the service done if you feel the need to retain a stamped up Renault book but get the other bits done by a specialist. Let us know your location and there will be a recommended specialist close to you.

I stay up in Aberdeenshire. I was just going to buy brake discs and pads from a website or something and my bf would fit them for me. Any recommendations on any sites?

Emma to put into perspective, I drive my cars VERY VERY hard and I managed to get over 40k from rear disks. Thank for their advice, get a quote for the work and say you'll think about it.

Well according to them the pads are well worn. I have to sign a Disclaimer form since I'm not getting changes done at the garage. I'm trying to save pennies!

yeah, IIRC Renault said my brakes were something stupid like 40% worn on its first (12k) service, they were nothing of the sort. I would either get your bf or someone else to check it also. Its more than likely BS.

I'm in Turriff.
Me being a girl am very worried about it all! Hope I dont crash or something now!
Does any know where i can get good prices on discs and pads?

turra! lol cool cool best place is dingbro but they only sell to companies. if you can get some1 that is in the trade to order you could save a few pounds

eh no not really. but sometimes up that way for work (well passing to inverness) was looking to get wheels refurbed at turriff tyres soon.

Has anyone used the yozzasports discs etc? Any good? I'm tempted!

Yeah i changed mine last week. The discs are OEM Renault rear discs, it what renault would be putting on if they did it! +they have new rear bearings in + pads :D

is he? yeah the guy jim(?) said it would be a while of a wait so give him a phone in a month or so. but they are a decent price from there so worth the wait. you goin to the meet up inverness way?

Its actually Julian who deals in that department, Jims son. Yeah they are busy just now, my bf has been waiting for ages. Where and when is the meet? I havent been online in ages!

where about in aberdeen are you?

i am from portlethen
small world! i grew up there :o

rubber boots... could be cv boots/gaiters? seems helluva soon for those to have perished tho :quiet:

The rubber boots they are going on about are probably the rubber gaiters round the piston on the rear caliper, they do split, then they seize, but they are only £8 each i think.

Get to GSF to save money

Id get someone independant to check the rear brakes, as they dont do much at all on a cup, as the bias is so strongly adjusted to the front.

At 24k certainly shouldnt be worn thru.

i left in 2001. still live jus down the road in oak drive. the acad is about to get torn down in next couple of weeks. brand new £15m school opening for new term. some size! 4 stories high and covers almost all of the park that sat next to it

omg! i lived just opposite the main gates, which was dead handy for sleeping-in and lunchtimes! :D were u a fishermosser (primary school) too?
