I GOT ONE! Minty mint mint!

  LOTS!

Ahh, at long last I found my new toy. Travelled 250 miles on a train to go and see her and shes mint! 2001 51 plate with 27k on the clock - immaculate condition inside and out, shes a real beauty.

And of course I had the pleaseure of the 250 mile test drive home :D which despite some pretty nasty weather on the M1 was a really good journey.

OK - initial impressions and comparisons to the 106GTi: The 172 doesnt feel quite as aggressive/raw as the 106 at first but its power lurks in different power bands. This would explain why Ive never managed to keep up with one in the 106!

The interior is much nicer - still not great, a bit cheap but a lot nicer than the 106. The other thing I felt was how safe I felt, the handling felt brilliant and I havnt pushed it yet. Using the auto-wipers and radio controls on the wheel is great cause I can really concentrate on the road.

Loads of power = loads of fun! Im really pleased. :)

Just 2 questions - Where is the shift light? Havent seen it come on yet so not sure where Im looking?

Also, how does the trip computer work? I thought at the end of a run it would flash up how far youve gone? mine doesnt....?

Shift light is bottom right hand corner of the display.

You use the button on the end of the right hand stalk to cycle through the trip computer functions.

Glad you are pleased with the car.

shift light is in right hand corner of the dials, and trip computer doesnt flash automatically, its selected on the end of the right stalk, various modes etc.

Welcome aboard sailor.

As above the light is on the bottom right of the instrument display, if youve not seen it, drive it harder. lol

Yeah - far too many mentions of "Mint" on this site!!! I did use a Mint card to help pay for it though.. ?!!

I got train to Durham - was £64 SINGLE! (Was feeling optimistic!) so £50 for two ppl, 3 stops is cracking value. Do it.

And no, I hadnt seen teh car in advance apart from pictures and it felt honest so I took the gamble. Would have been gutted if it were non-genuine.

Cheers for the advice on the light and trip - will investigate later on.

HOW DO I POST PICTURES PLEASE???

To be fair you shouldnt see the shift light if your changing gear at the optimum revs as it comes on well past peak power. Its more of a shift now before I bounce off the limiter light. The only time you should see it really is flat out in fifth ;)

Cheers guys n gals.

Payed 7k for it - probably about right and the mileage is pretty good. Originally saw it on Ebay but arranged the sale privately.

Had it out at lunchtime and thoroughly enjoyed myself (The Clio that is).

No mods at all at present... When I can eventually afford it Ill get a new set of 16s on it, drop it on coilovers (or Koni adjustables if cash is an issue). Then a decent induction kit and exhaust will finish of my modding for this one.

Have got a nitrous kit in my loft but not sure wether Ill bother with that - certainly in the short term, it seems to be quick enough for my liking!

looks just like mine!
Ive been waiting a while for my membership as well, probs with the new forum or something.
I dont get to drive it as much as i like but I still get butterflys when its time to go home from work. :D

Have fun mate!
