I have a replacement engine (what should I change on it b4 putting it in the car?)

  Clio 172
Recently I have had a bad noise coming from my engine and with the other engine probs ontop I have decided it would be easier and cheaper to fit another engine.

I have low milage engine waiting to go into the car but I would like to know what you personally would replace before fitting it back into the car.

Currently changing:

Cambelt
Cambelt tensioner + idler
Water pump
Oil change + engine oil flush
Coolant flush
New fully sem oil
New oil filter
New ht leads
New rotor arm
New dist cap
New aux belt
New powersteering fluid
New brake fluid

I have a bill for a clutch kit replacement (22k) ago so no need for a clutch im guessing

Can you think of anything else I should do?

Oh and old engine had oil dripping from bottom of spark plugs when they we removed what causes this?

Thanks

If you're doing the cambelt, why not do the head gasket and bolts + grind in all the valves at the same time. Most valver heads I've seen have always had a slight compression leak at the valves due to carbon deposits and wear.

Oil on the spak plugs can be caused by excessive breathing, worn rings or grooves in the cylinder walls. If you do the head gasket then you'll get a chance to check the bores out.

Depending on price new starter.

I'd also change ball joints all rubbers for the anti roll bars etc and the top rubber thingie ontop of the shock.

If you're feeling rich and want a good job I'd strip the engine down rebuild all the gasgets piston rings etc it will make the engine more powerful more so than some older worn Williams engines.

Yeah gaskets and piston rings if its gonna be in pieces. Clutch has 22k but if it goes its more trouble when teh engines fitted os depeds if you want to chance it.

Just do everything that costs a fortuen when engine is fitted and no rrom to work on. Then when you get fitted you should be fine till cambelt change time.

Ideal time to fit new cams and verniers or get headwork done as stilkl have other engine in car to minimise time off road.

New spark plugs I think are missing from your list.

Oil on spark plugs can be from rocker cover gasket I believe. Have same problem on my 1.8 engine but this is being replaced bya 2.0 in spring.

So basically if you can afford it do everything you can to it whilst it's out. Because the soon as you drop it into the sardine tin and one thing goes wrong it's going to cost what doing the whole lot would whilst it's out.

Thinking about it if you are stripping the engine and rebuilding it get a 2.0 bottom end for more power and a better low down power.

the oil in the plug's, i had this on mine it was caused by someone filling the oil up but missing the hole, so the oil ran down into the plug well's

Suppose it could run down the plugs when they're taken out but with the way these engines use oil it's worth a look at the bores. If they're grooved, a slight hone and some cheap new rings can work wonders
