I know this hasnt been mentioned for a while.....

  Clive the Clio no. 2
with the current price of petrol getting more expensive each time i drive past a garage, i was looking at a LPG conversion.

As i drive 40 miles a day to work and back, im looking at 250+ miles a week, so i thought that maybe if i invest in one now, it might pay off in the long run.

If petrol does increase up to £1.50 then LPG wil be a quid cheaper every litre!!

I have listed a few questions for people to answer for me please!

1. How much is a conversion?
2. Can i buy the kit separately, say on ebay then fit it?
3. How many miles would i have to do for the conversion to pay off?
4. Is there a drop in performance?
5. Is there a drop in MPG?
6. Will it decrease/increase value of car?

Most important....

7. Is it worth it?!

Any input would be appreciated.

my parents have a focus which runs on lpg. they have had it for years. runs fine. dunno if u can buy then fit yourself. but if u got a spare wheel they will take it out and put the lpg tank in the wheel bit. so if u did convert it you can run off of both and will have a switch to change from petrol to gas

I think a conversion, done properly, is about £2,000 and I think you have to have a specific service done (like an mot) for the lpg install every year to check it's all ok.
You still need some petrol for the first few miles untill the engine gets up to temp.

My other half knows quite alot about this as she was looking to do the conversion to her car

Some reviews

It's normally big cars that have the conversion done (and a lot of astra's I've noticed in the for sale ads on the net)

But you could potentially save yourself about £800 a year based on your mileage, so the system would pay for itself in about 2 years, after that is pure saving. I would ask yourself wheather you are happy to keep the car for at least 3 years.

We have our boat on LPG. It has a 5.7l V8 so would drink petrol and you would never know the difference. We also have a friend who has a land rover with the conversion which has about a 50l tank in the boot and he raves about it. IIRC he got it done here.... http://www.arunautogas.co.uk/
Good luck with it all.

To the OP; So is your car on finance? If it is have you checked with the company to check it's ok to make these types of conversions.

Read the reviews I've posted up, one cars pretty much like another the only time people complain is when they misscalculate the amount of mileage they do and the period of time it will take to pay it back.

Use the calculator. You'll save about £1400 by the time you flog your car, also in 4 years time your car will still have the conversion kit - petrol will be more expensive and so will tax. Your car will be in one of the lower tax bands and have lpg, assuming you have the car regulary serviced, it would be an attractive purchace to someone also wanting to save some cash, so you will get a good price back on the car even at slightly higher than average miles.

You have to do good miles to see the saving tbh.If thats the case then it can also help sell cars with the current climate of fuel prices

My Dad has an LPG Astra and i'm still considering it on my ST220. The only issue is that LPG seems to be going up just as much as petrol. I believe the government have raised the tax too which is hardly encouraging people to convert to LPG. I think a few years ago you could get government grants towards it but no more.

Still worth it if you do lots of miles though IMO
