ok ive got a 1000w mutant amp that im wanting to rin 2 12" subs off as im sick of how ugly my 15" Xplod is. They are going to be put into a Fibre glass install and will be arrrse out. I need something that looks decent this way thats cheapish and still kicks out some bass. Ive been looking at getting some used JL ones as i cant afford them new, any other suggestions?

^ that is the box that the subs will be going in.

but they look any good?

I know it shouldnt really matter because i do mostly care about the sound but for some reason it needs to look good too, im in a weird mood, or a chavvy one :p

Most subs claim in their spec that they aren't reccomended to be used "free air"

Does that mean they can't be used arse-out? :S

Thats exactly what i thought which is why im here. im new the turning the sub the other way round.....

free air means basicly mounting on parcel shelf with no box at all

in the spec for a sub it should give you the box size in cu.ft

you then need to subtract the subs displacement from that to have the right size box to mount arse out

Why not look at the base model RE's as they are better looking (imo) than the JL's arse out.

RMS isn't everything mate.

RE make some of the best subs on the market, especially in their new range, XXX and another above (I can't remember the model name).

They will sound much better than most of the crap that pioneer, alpine, etc produce in their budget ranges.

I personally don't think there is much need for 2 subs. I had a single JL12W0 (125 rms) and it kicked pretty hard. I've now got a Phoenix Gold X12D4 which is great and I can't fault at all. I personally feel, when working to a tight budget, it is better to put the money you were going to spend on 2 subs together, to buy 1 better quality sub.

All is IMO obviously :approve:

well ive got that box ^^

So those JL audio ones will do the business, Should be a good step up from my
15" xplod, my amp can give out about 250rms per channel so should be good enough yes? dont know how this box is going to sound though :/
