IE6 ga-ga question...

My dad's PC has a weird Internet Explorer issue that I suspect is some form of denial-of-service shite that he's picked up. Basically, when he launches IE, it opens up and minimises onto his toolbar. He's got BBC set as his homepage at the moment and when you click on the minimised icon, rather than expanding, it shoots off the right-hand side of the screen where you can't see it.

Alt-Tabbing to it doesn't work - it just sends it back on the toolbar. He did have the same issue a few months back before reformatting it and a simple new shortcut to the iexplore.exe got around the issue. It doesn't anymore! There doesn't seem to be any suspicious processes running within Task Manager either.

Any suggestions or ideas as to what could be causing this to happen?

I find lavasoft ad-aware a good starting point for weird going ons like that.

You sure he didnt have his monitor set to a higher resolution and moved the window to the side of the screen, then changed the resolution down so he effectivly cant drag it back on to the screen ?

^^^^ - I thought of that m8. He did originally have it set to 1024x768 when the problem was occurring. We tried on seperate occassions to have the PC running in 1280x1024 and down to 800x600. Still the same thing happened....

ok, just thought I would check the obvious first. Do the standard things first viri/spyware/adware scans first.. panda online and trend online virus scanners are good and free.

Downloaded v1.5 for him and installed it on his PC. Guess what? He can now browse the internet, no trouble.

IE-specific crap is the issue, yet again....
