IK OR NOT



  Was a Clio 1.8 16v


Should i sacrifice low down pull with my standard air box for the awesome sucking and deep induction roar my PiperX IK gives me?

Basically ive come to the decision that the IK is better over 60mph & the original box is the same through 1st & 2nd up to 60, BUT the power band is SO high up the revs that it isnt as enjoyable to drive normally. IE i dont hav to cane it for the car to move with original box, but when the car is let rev to 7k the IK makes up on the lack of low down torque by flying through 6-7k revs, whereas the original box causes power to peak early.

Im guessin that a panel fillter will be the best soultion for a balance between performance & feel but the sound is pretty special, what dyou reckon? Thanx, Mikey.
 


well......depends if you want performance or noise, in all fairness the IK makes such a wicked noise on the valvers. also it depends how you drive, if you drive like a granny, Panel filter is prob best for its low down torque, if you cane it everywhere, i would go for IK

I got some rudie wanting a race with a grey 16v in Stockport tonight (if u know her) mate & the sucking & roaring it made means my PiperX will probably be goin back on tomorrow.

Dont u miss that noise clean?
 


I still use my IK as I only use the car for leisure and live in a fairly cool part of the world (coastal wales). So in my typical driving I never encounter the sort of environments where an IK is a burden. Moreover, the location of my additional fuel regulator means that the airbox I had wouldnt fit!!

I dont think the difference is massive either way - you wont lose a race against a car youd normally beat on account of an IK.

Yeah, i know that but it does take the fun out of driving it normally as u can move by only takin it up to 5k whereas with the IK its up to 7k or jus dont bother. I think my 1/4 mile will be better with the IK but its just enjoying driving it with-out booting it if u know what i mean?
