Illustrator Help

right guys, ive got a file open in Illustrator CS but I need to convert it so its a Illustrator 8 file. Complicated and boring reason why, but I cant see how to do it.

Any help appreciated.

When you press save it pops up a dialog asking for the version to save it in!

You need to export the file as a legacy one.

Open File, then Export then at the bottom select Legacy, then you can select which version you need.

Snoop, mine doesnt do that!

Steve, I tried that and it made it over 500MB!

What size is the file when it is in CS?

Is there image files placed or linked into it?

Theres images in it, but not linked. Its an EPS file, so opened it and tried to save as AI. I can save as AI but not as a specific version.

Tried what Steve said and it made it huuuuuge!

The only way to save it as an older version is as Steve posted.

Back saving some files does make them turn out huge, does it have to be saved in V.8.

Making a Hi Res PDF of it not an option?

Do a save as, select Adobe PDF file (should be between illustrator template and SVG compressed) and press enter, then it asks what version you want it in, its still an illustrator file with a illustrator icon but from version CS onwards illustrator has been PDF based.

Actually, I've been using illustrator on my work PC to design a website for our new venture, I find it much easer to deal with vectors rather than pixels at design time. Then it's an export to PNG and into photoshop for cutting and splicing and stuff.

It occured to me that I'm using CS2 not CS, so I guess CS might not have that option. Whenever I save (or maybe it's just on save-as) it pops up a window asking for my saving preferences, and there's a little drop down to select the version.

Illustrator is the nuts. Frustrating when you first start using it (paths!!!), but when you figure it all out, it's fantastic.
