Im nervous as hell... my clios going in for an oil seal!

Car  BMW 330d :)
Ive just come back from dropping my car at the renault dealership after the seal round the top of the engine was found to be leaking. Im now sh!tting myself as the car came back from the garage last time with some nice new dents in the bonnet which they tried to deny...

Just have to wait in suspense for the phone call.

Any other 172/182 owners had problems with the oil seal/ excessive oil usage?

Cheers

Fraser

Yep, mine's been weeping for the last 20k miles.

I just put up with it, rather than let the local Renault spanner monkeys climb all over it.

Fingers crossed mate!

Yeah well they "forgot" to put the sump plug back in properly during the last service, causing me to stop at the side of the road with the oil pouring out the bottom of the engine. It doesnt bode well when they have to take the engine appart.... I'll have to see if its still using any oil afterwards.

Cheers

Why don't you take it to a garage like Rentech, at least you know your cars in safe hands? I have no faith whatsoever in my nearest Renault dealership, their a munch of muppets.

Mine came away after warranty work with a yellow line down door, guess what colour ramps in the garage?????????????

I had the same...

Took it in, they told me they fixed it. Picked it up and the job card said "oil leak: Cleaned up, seems okay now..... And thats fixed how??????

had to take it in again and they sorted it...

If theres so much problem with garages, have someone witness you photographing the whole car before it goes in, panel by panel.

I hate leaving my car anywhere too. Hope it all goes well for you mate
Same here hate leaving it at garages, Last time mine was at Ren when the elecy window drivers side would'nt wind the window up it was raining and when I picked me car up they had just left it out in the reain and the drivers seat was soaked and its a Billabong so as you can imagine it was a b*****d getting the stains outta the green seats!!

or PMurrays in leeds AKA RS tuning

Ive just got the car back with a small dent in the bonnet from where one of the numpteys dented it again, this is after I kicked up a stink about it last time and the same thing has happened. Im too tired to bring this up with them again. They didnt have the parts they needed so I need to put it back in next wed. They gave me a breakdown of the parts they are going to replace.

Part No
10 x "Bolts" 7703020028
1 x Alt belt 7700114730
1 x Timing Belt kit 7701476675
1 x End Cap 1100106271
1 x End Cap 1100274026
12 x Bolts 1100106427
8 x Bolts 1100106428
1 x Sealer 1111236172
4 x Bolts 1100106429

Maybe Ben, Matt or Yozza could give me an idea if all this work is needed to fix a leaking seal at the top of the engine and whether all these parts are right.

The good part of it I suppose is that I wont need to pay for the belt changing at 36k miles which should save me some cash.

Thats a good point. Didnt know that all this was necessary. Goign to ring my garage and find out if they replaced the belt when they did mine...

same thing happened to mine about 2 months ago - I take it you mean the seal around the rocker cover? did mine in 2 days and all was fine luckily. Remember to take your service book to the garage so they stamp it for you to say the cam belt has been changed.

Had a oil seal changed at renult Watford. The service was nothing short of exceptional. They were really really good. Took a few days but the work was good, car well cared for and it was washed inside and out when i picked it up.

::)

Yeah its the seal round the rocker cover at the top. Hopefully if its going to take a couple of days I'll get a hire car as I need it for work.

Cheers

bunch of useless idiots am dreading it when i take my 182 into my local renault for its 12000 service soon.....gulp....

Take it to Rentech in Portsmouth mate, Mike knows how to look after a car.

I'm wondering if this is the same problem mine has. Today I was stationary at traffic lights when the car filled with a horrible smell of burning oil. Rather worried i pulled over and lifet the bonnet to see small wisps of smoke coming from the back of the engine. Off comes the plastic cover and I could just about see a slight oil leak, looks like it is dripping onto the exhaust manifold. Bugger :(

Is it likely to get worse? Serious problem? Costly? :dapprove:

Know how you feel..I always get a bit edgy when I leave my car at a garage for a service or fix.

As for the oil leaking out of the cam cover onto the manifold I believe that it's a bit more complicated on the 172/182 as this cover is integral with the cams themsevles.
