Im worried about my engine

Today i was driving along and was in 2nd gear and went to overtake a van so put my foot to the floor. I went to change up at about 4000 rpm and i didnt realise that the accelerator had got stuck under the mat on the floor of the car.

So when i went to change up after putting in the clutch the engine starts hitting the rev limiter. After a couple of seconds max i realised how the throttle got stuck and managed to release it. I really shook me up. The car runs fine but do you think it would have caused any internal damage bearing in mind that this was the first time my car had been to the rev limiter?

Many thanks

No, as long as theres oil in it etc, the rev limiter is there for that reason!! stop worrying.

Yeah it got plenty of oil, and the engine had been running for about an hour before so was fully warmed up.

It just scared me because it made a horrible noise. Whilst it was doing it i kept hearing a sort of tapping noise. Is this the rev limiter?

it will just have been it revving really hard, to be fair you probably thought you heard worse than you actually did!!! if it sounds ok now forget about it!

yeah... no damage at all. And give it some more beans now and then... loosen it up !.

When they test engines, don they keep it at the limit for like... 15 hours of something silly.

Sleep easy?! If needing to replace your engine will make you sleep easy then your right! It will have potentially ruined it big time, book it in for a service ASAP. Dont ever hit the rev limiter again mate, its not clever and just hurts such a beautiful machine!
