Immobiliser issue..?

Hey team, long time reader first time poster!
I have a ph2 172, I have the car in a few pieces at the moment as its getting some painting done. The car has sat for a week and when i have gone to start it im getting a no crank situation. My immobiliser/security light always flashes about once a second or so. The key fob still locks/unlocks the car. When i go to start the engine, im sure usually the immo light stops flashing. But now it just keeps its normal flash sequence and when i turn the key to turn over the engine I get nothing. I can hear the throttle body click, but just silence. Everything else in the car car works, radio, heater fan etc. The only thing i can think of that i may have done is when i took the drivers rear view mirror off the plug was melted to it. Had obviously got super hot in the past for some reason, I was levering it off and must have shorted a couple of wires as i got a short/spark. But it is unplugged now. (It hasn't worked since i got the car) probably unrelated. I have trawled through the immo threads, must most people say there light flashes fast or goes solid and at least get the engine to spin over. I also have a strong battery in the car, have tried disonnecting it for ten minutes. It has a nice fat earth lead. I feel the car isn't recognising the key, is this normal for failure or am i missing something.. thanks

Make sure the ecu hasn't 'lost' the connection with the fob, I had a similar issue and we'd tried everything and it turning out it needed recoding the fob to the car with Clip.

thanks, after reading up.. a lot, I think this may be the case. Remote lock works, but with the key in the ign at any setting acc ign start etc the immo light never changes in its flash frequency. Was trying to see if this was related to the no crank issue. I was busy buffing and refitting bumpers and trim today. But will also be checking earth straps and basic wiring next. Possible the ign barrel ring reciever thing may be broken? Sure ill get there in the end.

I sourced a ign barrel ring reciever today, swapped it over and still no go. Can anyone confirm for me, my imob light frequency never changes in speed regardless of key position. I put a meter on the battery today 12.8v, made it so i could see the reading when trying to crank the motor, pos 3. The voltage never even dipped. Am i most likely looking at getting a new key reprogrammed? Has anyone had any success with the immobiliser bypass i have seen for sale. Bit of a hassel for me in New Zealand..
