Induction kit fitted but hmmmm

Hey everyone,

Finally got my K&N 57i induction kit and fitted it ok, All the fitting went fine.

Sounds brilliant from about 1500 to 4000 revs which im very happy with.

It seems tho to have lost a little bit of power especially lower down the rev ranges??! Is this normal? Has anyone else fitted this kit and found the same?

there are two pics up at http://www.adrenalinone.co.uk/Assets/Images/induction/index.htmhttp://www.adrenalinone.co.uk/Assets/Images/induction/index.htm

Should the ducting hose be this close to the filter or should I move it a little further away?

Help and advice much appreciated

Thanks

you might lose a bit of power and you certainly wont gain anything with that open i/k kit.its to close to the engine youll just suck in hot air all the time.

K-tec do a relocation pipe AFAIK that will take the IK away from the side of the engine !! Although its still an open IK and will suck in the hot air from the engine bay !! either get a closed IK, relocation pipe or standard airbox with a performance filter !!

relocation pipe I cant have cos I have air con!

Fair enough, just wanted to check it was normal thats all!!

I will get used to the very slight performance drop soon enough and its worth it for the noise! at the end of the day its a 1.2! performance isnt really the issue for me!!

Thanks everyone.

Would the cold air feed be better slightly further away from the filter or is that the best spot for it?

Just been looking at the k-tec relocation pipe which I cant have but it seems simple enough so monday morning is going to find me on the phone to some local engineering places to see if they can make me something similar up!

Any problems with me locating the filter right behind the lower bumper grille? Obviously its got to be secure but is it alright to have it down the lower side?

did u actually notice much noise difference mate coz im trying to decide which route to go down with induction and i have AC as well? thinking of getting a panel filter now but wud like a bit of noise so im undecided.

Noise: Massive difference, sounds fantastic, right from 1500rpm up to just over 4000. sounds so so so good, massive difference to standard.

performance: hmmm its a noticeable drop, especially in second gear thats where I have really noticed it, I work at a place where the workshops may be able to help me out by making me an aluminium pipe to relocate the filter. Im thinking I will have a pipe made to end oup with the filter right down in the lower grille where my cold air ducting ends now.

If I bought the induction kit and relocater do u think I would feel these power losses?
Yes its only a 1.2 but why lose power? Stuff that!
So if I used the relocation kit u think I mite not lose any power?

From what I understand the power loss is down to the increased temperature around the air filter. If the air filter is moved away from the hot engine and directly into the path of the cold air then it should be cold and therefore the reduction in power should be less!

I know what you mean about losing power but for me I know I cannot make my little clio super powerful so would rather have a nice sound out of it instead. Its same as the choice of ice or no ice. If I didnt have two large amps a nice solid wood boot build a large sub box etc etc the car would be quicker but I like my tunes!!

I hear what ur saying mate, but we aint got a lot of power as it is so why lose more!? :)
So if I bought K-TEC induction kit and their relocation kit, then maybe I mite not lose any power and still get a beefy sound?

You should be fine yeah, I guess its all down to whats more important to you, if you want power then go for a viper but you wont get noise!

Best bet is speak to k-tec and see what they say about it, if you havent got air con then its prob the best way to go, im going to get a pipe made for me so the filter is right down next to the fogs!!!

up, increased temps m decreased densities, which means less O2 per volume.

oughly 3% power gain per 10 degree temp drop of inlet air.

So if I put the induction filter at the end of a lovely pipe down by the fog lights directly in the path of lots of lovely cold air that will improve it?

I fitted one to mine last week mate. Made it tickover slower and i lost a bit of power and gained a lot of noise.

If it sounds faster i want it to GO faster and it dont.

Coming off this weekend. Original box and K+N Element going on....

Waste of money IMO.

Is that the K&N your talking about?

ive got a piperX. no noticable performance loss and it definately picks up quicker at motorway speeds. sounds brilliant as well

I have the K&N on the Williams, I prefer the noise it makes to the minimal power loss that I doubt really makes that much of a difference.

ive currently got on order a Ktec racing ramcharger IK for my 1.4 16v clio.

will this cause a decrease in performance? im not expected to many gains altho i have got a full dectted exhaust system.
