Induction Kits?

Is there any sort of problems with fitting an induction kit that wasn't designed for the car. Not worried about the fitting, its just i was talking to a bloke at work and he was saying that the kits are designed with a flow rate specific to that car. Any thoughts?

nah b****cks are they!
k&n, green cotton etc as long as you make provision for the air flow sensor and all the pipes fit etc all will be good
