Insurance and remaps

When you remap a car, because nothings actually being bolted to the engine such as a chip, would the insurance companys ever find out about the remap if you had a smash up?

ah i seeeee, i mean im talking obviously if you dont tell them its been "modified" crash the car to a point where it would be written off etc so the insurance go over the car. So if thats true then hmmm

If the inspecter want's too look at your ECU , he's looking for a remap!

That's his job, he know's what too look for!

Ah crap, so its a be careful jobby really, how much does a remap put up the insurance then roughly, for a 17year old if anyone knows, say from 65 hp to 85hp?

Depend's on the company mate, some of them are clued up, some of them are mad, like mine , and lump you in with all the turbo remap's!

does anyone really know what bhp gain you get on 172/182's? are they actuly worth it?

about 7-10hp and 15lbft and they make a noticable difference. So 100% worth it

If the insurance guy goes looking for a remap and finds one, did you put it there??? very easy blagged that you know nothing of it and a previous owner did it.

Done this with my saxo and even got away with the alloys and exhaust at a cost of £100 more excess

True but what if they where to trace the history and the previous owners says Nope i didnt do a remap, and say theyre the first owner of the car out of the dealership, then your slightly screwed really?
