Insurance assholes (stripped interior)

  ?
Was thinking of colour coding and stripping out the rear seats... so i phoned up good old bell to ask for a quote and how it would change my policy.

Colour coding - £25ish ... fair enough.

Welsh lass - 'err why would you like to take the rear seats out?'
Me - 'i need the extra boot space to transfer stuff to/from university'
Welsh lass - 'ok thats fine hold please'
----
Welsh lass - 'I have just spoken to my manager and unfortunately we cant provide cover if you remove the rear seats as it is changing the structure of the car'
Me - 'im sorry, what?'
Welsh lass - 'its changing the structure of your car'
Me - 'ok so how can i do it? do I need to pay extra'
Welsh lass - 'no we wouldnt be able to insure you for that at all due to the cars structure changing'

Structure of my car? Only thing I can think of why insurance would be funny is that it would change my car as technically a 2 seater instead of 5... but she didnt even mention this. Just kept going on about the structure of the car changing!

Gnna try ringing up again soon because I dont know why they allow just about every other modification

is anyone with bell/admiral/elephant and have any experiance with stripped interiors?

You need Brentacre in your life. I'm glad I paid the extra over Bell to go with them tbh

Equivalent conversation with Brentacre:

Me - I've stripped the rear of my car.
Brentacre - No problem. I'll amend your policy free of charge. Can I help you with anything else?
Me - No thanks. Bye

Brings up the question of what is a modification tbh, if you were just taking your seats out to put more stuff in the boot - would you inform the ins company?

Do they need to know if you put an air freshener on the dash/put seats covers on or change your floor mats - they are all modifications to the standard specification after all.

Id ring back & ask to speak to the organ grinder, not the monkey tbh. Or just fold your seats down permanently lol.

How does that make it faster?

Oops i meant, yes that could work...

I really wish I would have gone with them this year :(

Definately next year, I knew a few months ago I should have gone with them. If only I knew about them @ renewal time!

Apparently she spoke to the manager. I dont want to argue with them but im sure he's wrong...

Seats are structurally integral to an RSI don't you know ?

The axle sits in a plastic tube superglued to the bottom of them.

:rasp:

Its gone to s**t today :( I feel so ill !

SRS though, I would ring them again and ask to speak to the manager straight away and explain to him how rear seats aren't structurally integral to a car.

I didnt when I was with Bell, but when I took out a policy with Brentacre I told them every little thing just because I could without them caring

I rang bell up to tell them i stripped the interiour because of needing room for my Bike and snowboard. They said it was ok but it would be classed as an interiour modification with my buckets.
I might have paid a tiny bit more but not too much.
Tell them next time you need the space for your bike once a month. sorted. :)

I'm going to tell them my mate has done this. Do you still have a policy with them?

:)

Called them back, told them my mate did it etc and i plan on moving stuff etc (which is true, I am a university student after all) and they said that someone has put a note on my record that i enquired about changing the structure or something stupid like that of my car. So... they have to talk to the underwriters and get back to me tomorrow? LOL.

Will be nice to see how this pans out...

I say don't tell them, take the rear seats out then if you have an accident (hope not) just chuck them in the boot, say they fell off in the impact or some crap.

  ?
Success!!

Called them back, underwriters have said it will just be an 'interior modification'

£25 extra :)

Now to sell my subwoofer and get to work!! mwahaha.

  ?
Insure it as interior modifications. You declared colour coding? Crikey.

See my last post.

I havn't colour coded it yet, but for £25 extra I dont want to run the risk. Would prefer to have everything declared then switch to a mod-friendly insurance company next year ;)

im paying 2k a year with adrain flux, i see them at FCS and ask how much it will go up to with a "slight" mod lol, he asks what, i said a supercharger lol. he then pressed a few buttons and said well, when you renew, we can insure you with the supercharger, 1040!! lol double the power, half the price! cant beat that.

Insuring colour coding? Thats absolute madness!!! I mean your car was like that when you got it wasnt it? So you know no different? ;)

With this sort of mentality, did you insure your CS sticker?

Just tell them you went over a speedbump with your friends in the back and they splashed milk on the trim, and had to remove it because of it getting mouldy. ;)

LOL. They're supposed to be car insurance specialists yet reckon seats are part of the structure of the car. Almost as bad as car salesmen.
