Insurance company/comparison websites list

I received my insurance renewal through yesterday and it's gone UP £70 despite me having another year's NCB (up to 6) and absolutely nothing changing on my policy. Aye right...

It would be useful to have a definitive list of all car insurance comparison websites, plus perhaps a list of worthwhile car insurance company websites. I've had a search and can't find any thread like this: lists like these would be useful for anyone looking for car insurance in future perhaps.

I’ll start it off? Just the website address please, no pisch about quotes, etc, just copy and paste the list below and add on your suggestions please.

Cheers

i dont know if this works for everybody, but in my experince (which is ALOT of insurance quotes - usually 20 plus each year) the comparison websites give you no information worth bothering with. The 3 years I have done quotes I have first checked the comparison sites, and the top 5 appear for example. If you then go onto that specific website for the company it is ALWAYS cheaper. without fail.

i have also noticed that each year the quote from my current insurer comes through for the next year, and they always go up in price. If you then go back onto their website and do a quote the always go down. so phone them up, complain about the new quote price and they give it you for the new net price (saved just over £300 quid last time round using this method)

Im not saying it will work for everyone, but in my experience.

^
that works for me too, I always get a quote from mine as if i'm a new customer & get them to match it.

In my experience the comparision sites are rubbish. They either quote me twice (or more) what i'm paying, or don't wanna know.

Waste of my time.

Yeah, I’ve not had great results from those sites, hence why I was asking for more lol.

My current insurer matched a rival’s lower quote last year at this time. My plan is to shop around a lot – by all means including these comparison sites – then go back to them. Had usually worked for me (not just for cars but the likes of mobile phones too) but I need to find some lower quotes too.

Should help that for once I’ve got a standard car LOL

try bell (www.bell.co.uk) whack a couple of women on the policy and say parked in the street, should save a few bob and if you do mod they are reasonable with pricing for them.

Already had the wife on there for a few years - she brought my policy down by about 10% in the past :). Plus the car IS genuinely garaged every night any they know that.

Doing a few comparison sites isn't exactly hard work, so I'm going to try the ones I know of. Got to be worth trying to save a few quid? Or is it just us tight Scots that go to the hassle LOL?

F**k me...

  • Seat Ibiza Cupra TDI PD160 (group 16)
  • 2005/55 value £9.5k
  • 29 y.o. male
  • 6 years NCB protected
  • car garaged overnight
  • 10k miles p.a. inc. 1k business miles (business class 1 insurance)
  • wife on the policy as 2nd driver

Renewal from current insurer (Admiral) = £468.80 (excess £360)

Sticking details into www.confused.com = £314.05 with esure (excess £300)

Unbelieveable...

Not going to approach Admiral yet, I think there's still cheaper quotes out there to go bartering with

Go on admirals site, change your d.o.b. by a few days & put in a different name to yours (still male obviously) Then get a quote from them - it'll be less than what they've told you, get the reference number bell them up & ask them to match it, in my experience they will.

Bell are parts of the admiral group lik eelephant.

for some reason if is cheaper to have the car on the street than in the garage (wtf?) with them and they offer the same cover options as admiral or you can go flexibell and customise the cover and spec to drive other cars third party.

they were £50 cheaper than anywhere else for my dad on my old laguna (for some reason its onlya 1.6 but like group 14 insurance) hes like £180 fully comp.

when i was shopping about i asked admiral to price match and they told me they do not price match at all.
