insurance for lowering your car!!!

just phoned tesco to see about how much it would cost if i lowered my car....
they wanted £150 for the year!!! told them quite politely where to put that....
do you think its risky putting them on and not telling the insurance?

thanks

  ur megane r26
well if u do that it just means if you have an accident that u will have to swap them back over so they dont turn up and see them and say that you didnt inform them and therefore they are going to reject your claim blah blah blah lol

would i get away with painting them liek you said? surely the guy that comes out will know his stuff and will notice a 40-60mm difference?

The only time they will look at your car is if u have an accident, you say u dnt wanna use theier recommended repairer so it buys you some time
They will only come n look at it once u have provided an estimate, and depending on the estimate they might not send an engineer at all
usualyl when the labout is under 250 they will jst tell u to go ahead.
I wrk in insurance claims ud well get away with it
Also modification do not have to be disclosed until renewal of the policy

no u wnt get away with painting them will be a qualified enginerr

surely if you change a part with a different part yo must tell the insurance? as you could just say to the insurance that you changed the parts after you started your policy? that would mean knowones insurance could get void?sorry but that doesnt seem correct,
if i changed them i would have time to get them off and swapped for the standards?

thanks for the replies

well i can tell you that its the same for convictions they do not have to to be disclosed until renewal of the policy, This was with Churchill and considering Tesco is underwritten by the rbs as well as churchill i reckon the policy will be much the same

Yes you will have time provided you make sure u do not use their recommened repairer scheme

ok thanks, could anyone else shed anymore light on this? would 60mm be very noticeable to the untrained eye or will it stick it like a hard on in shorts?

bear in mind that you have made a phone call stating that you are considering lowering the car..........and they will have that on record ;)

also, its hard to change them if things are bent - or you are bent. also....... tesco have been known to spot cars they insure at car shows, and ring the owner up if things dont look as quoted in their policy!

but last and by no means least..........if you cant afford the extra insurance for the mod, then technically, you can't afford the mod itself!

Had a £22k claim few years back, very glad everything was declared or that could have been out my pocket!

Its a shitter but tbh mate Id just bite the bullet and pay the extra.

  No wheels :(
My friend is with Norwich Union - Got his Corsa SRI 54 plate lowered 45mm all round got quoted £30 extra for the year of Insurance...

I paid £90 with asda for lowering the car and im glad I did. If you're not able to switch the springs yourself you could easily pay atleast that amount to a garage to swap them over again...
