Insurance increase - Admiral

  Clio RS 182
I've just had my renewal come through from Admiral, unfortunatly I was standing up at the time and nearly fell over when I saw the new premium; its gone from £560 to £858:eek:

I contacted Admiral in order to see if they're able to bring the premium down, and after some haggling have got them down to £778, but this is still unacceptable. My cover includes breakdown cover with a £450 excess (£100 compulsory and £350 voluntary).

Has anybody else had similar premium increases? Is it worth trying someone like Adrian Flux, Direct Line etc? Obviously the reason for the increase is that I'm young (27) and drive a group 16 car which is fairly nickable:eek:

Its a renewal notice, they automatically add on 25% then send it out. Purely as most customers dont notice & carry on paying the premiums ...

Get a quote from Elephant (same company), then tell Admiral to match it.

Simple.

For cars like the 182, independant specialists are always going to be cheaper as they offer taylor made policies.
Sky insurance have been excellent with me so far on the 182 and now the Audi. Greenlight were competitive too, and handled my claim easily.

Don't bother trying Chris Knott though, apparently you're not old enough to drive a Renault Clio responsibly until you're 30 years of age.

Agreed, I did this, with Elephant at moment got a cheaper quote from Admiral, Elephant matched it and then some worked out £100 cheaper!

SNAP.

I have a multicar & the night before the renewal landed on my doormat I went into admiral as a new client.
it went from existing cost of 700 to 800.
i though this was ok as prices have gone up & i had a small claim during last year(new bumper on the wife's car) , plus we changed the wife's car to a new one worth 15k rather than 6k.

new multicar price was 1300!!!

they were willing to take 15% off the 1300 ~ no good to me!!!

now with aviva , they did it for 700

so try them

David.

Thought I would report my end result;

I had an alternative quote from Elephant, they quoted £727 including breakdown cover. So I phoned up Admiral and after some haggling they matched the premium so that was £130 off.

I still wasn't satisfied with the premium increase, to go from £560 to £727 is ridiculous, so I called up Sky and Adrian Flux who were around the same price. Finally settled with Esure with a premium of £640. They were not the cheapest but offered the same level of cover I already had with Admiral. I've heard Adrian Flux are pretty hopeless when it comes to claiming and general customer service, so wouldnt have renewed with them anyway, that was just for haggling purposes (to go with Admrial with).

Bored you all to death on a boring subject. I'm still left wandering why the premiums have increased as they have, considering I was a NCB better off this year:( My Dads insurance renewed roughly a month ago and he saw no increase:dead:

Lucky you didn't get the increase I did mate, mine wet from £800 to £1500 on my 1.4, after haggling and receiving a "loyalty discount" it dropped to £1000 ...

Insurance is in a bad state at the moment sadly

Location, location, location.

Where does the thread starter live?

I'm 26 years old, protected no claims etc etc, £358, which was twice the cost of my old diesel.
