Insurance - mileage

Just a quick one.

I told my insurance company Id do 16k miles this year and have just gone over that. The policy expires on the 5th of March anyway.

Could this causes a problem in the event of an accident. Its easy for them to prove how many Ive done as the car was new when I got it so the miles are on the clock were all done by me!!

Thanks (sorry for more insurance posts)

I shouldnt think itll be a problem, unless you make a claim.

If youve only just gone over, if they say it is a problem, go elsewhere.:)

i think when i asked about this before they said in the event that you make a claim they will get you to pay the additional premium you would have been charged for that milage and you excess when you make a claim but id ask the company what they say

I did 5,000 over my projected mileage!!

I didnt tell them though, dread to think what would have happened in the event of a claim.

Thing is at the start I said approx 25K to the woman on the phone. When the documents came through it said not exceeding 25K!!!WTF.

Check your docs, if its an approximation, youre doing nothing wrong. If it states not exceeding and if the worst thing that can happen is you pay the extra on top of your excess - then it makes sense not to tell them.

i dont think they really bother about it too much.

E.g. last year my mileage was 10k on my insurance, however i had two cars (6 months each) and did about 6 or 7k in each. Also, unless ur MOT is at the same time as ur insurance they cant get a reliable mileage to check it against

Why not tell them someone else has been driving it as well.

You could always ring one of these milage correction places and have them drop a few thousand miles dropped of the clcok.

Just say that a friend borrowed the car for a bit and he was driving under his insurance so you personally havent done more than your limit. Having said that I need to drive very carefully for the next month as I doubt they would believe that a friend did 8000 miles in it!

I did wondered that Edde, as its so close to 16k that the couple of hundred over could have been done by the dealer, its been there enough times!!

Ill call my insurance company tomorrow. Better to be safe than sorry. Knowing my luck in the 5 days Ive got left something bad will happen.

I would have called today but Ive had a bit of a hectic one.

I have asked several people who have made claims and no mention of mileage was ever made!!

Most insurance companies will let you up the mileage but they just want to know with a quick phonecall as far as I am aware!
