Insurance on Clio

Hi there.

I'm currently living in New Zealand and gona go to Loughborough for Automotive Engineering around Sep.

I decided to buy a Clio 182 when i get there but my frd told me that with my age, No way i can get insurance for any car. (19 years old.)

is there anyway i can get around that? heard someone talk about the 700pounds trader's insurance. does anyone know anything about that?

thanks a lot :D

Louis

You will struggle,m guessing you dont have a UK license, and having not driven in the Uk you wont have any NCB.

You will be looking at 2k straight away.

Pver here you will still be paying nearly 1k for a 1.2, nothing really you can do.

Loughbrough uni is great and its a campus uni.

  182 (Conversion)
When I was 21(ish) I was paying £2000 on a 172. That's with several years licence and no points and 3 yrs NCD.

  None :(
Ouch! that sounds like it may be an expensive one that!

If you have a temp address you could use, maybe go to gocompare.com and get a few rough quotes, but i'd say you'd be looking at 2k+ also,

good luck!

Your going to really struggle mate. There are so many things going again you like non uk resident which is a big one, no uk licence, group 16 car and no ncd Your best bet is to get a lower grouped car which you gonna hate lol

  Never above 25mpg
Get a MK1 1.8 16v, lesser insurance group, car not worth as much, older and still just as fun

  172 Ph2. Mmm...
ive just turned 18 and got my years no claims, i have a 172 (ph2) and am paying 2600 a year tpft, its totally worth it.

Its not. especially at TPFT, you must be insane. You are payin £7.12 a day for insurance! FLOL and you not even properly covered.

Theres so much you could do with that money.

i was joking, im not rich, i just wanted a 172 for the cheapest insurance possible, i can afford to put £50 a week towards insurance for this car as i have a full time job, so im happy. lovely stuff!

Fair enought if you can afford it, I see it an awful waste though, why not wait acouple of years and get a newer clio (197 or something, or even an audi etc) and stick aload of money into that.

There's no return with insurance, sure you want abit of fun but speed isn't the most important thing in the world. You can still have a very lovely car with a smaller engine size which is just as impressive as RS models, any clio owner who won't look at a 1.2 etc just because it's a smaller engine is just arrogant and ignorant.
