insurance question

mornin all,

i was just wondering if i am able to drive other cars...
i have a fully comp policy on my car under my own name with no other drivers, iam 19 and have been driving almost 2 years. if say my dad was to give me permission to drive his car (he is also fully comp) would i be allowed or do i have to have held my license for 3 years or be 21 to drive other cars?

think it actually needs to say in your policy wording that you are allowed to drive other vehicles.

iam fully comp though so i thought that i could drive any car as long as i have the owners permission regarding they are fully comp as well

i have to be 25 to drive othersw vehicles.

same on my other 2 policicies ive had.

but deffo needs to say on your insurance cert. if it dont say anything, then no.

Def needs to say on your insurance policy that you can drive other peoples cars. I know loads of people who think that they can drive other peoples cars bcuz they are fully comp on their own!

argh bugga. so does my dad need to ring my insurance company and put me as a named driver on his policy? or just say that i am allowed to drive his car.

no, the age isnt ok, thats the point. your too young for your insurance to cover you. otherwise youd get people insuring 1.0 axs and driving there dads 911.

ye for you to drive your dads youd have to be a named driver.

Yeah yr dad needs to tell his insurance company that he wants you as a named driver & 9 times out of 10 the premium goes up!

ohh i see. no i would understand if it was a 911 or something like that. this case is just as we are going to cornwall and we were going to share the driving. guess i will have to wait a few years then....

Just did my insurance again the other day, Bell came out the cheapest they actually allowed me to add this to my policy for about 28quid I think. Seems a good deal to me, don't think there is any age restrictions either since I'm 20

unless you're with the co-op, they provide drive anything under 25 or did last year on my policy. Every other insurer i've been with you need to be 25.

Also consider the this clause usually says something like in an emergencey!

Read you policy carefully, but i'd say better to assume you're not covered until you find something that says otherwise.
