Insuring a Stripped, caged, clio....

  172 Race Car
Any help would be greatly received as ive checked my current policy docs and the company website and cant find anything that would give me a clue. The company im with covered my mods, exhaust, springs etc. Gonna phone them tomorrow but just wondered if anyone who has a car like this culd give me some advice............

Any problems with it?

Will normal companies go for it or will i have to go to a specialist like Adrian Flux or someone?

How much do u have to tell them about?

Thanks in advance peeps.....

Tell them about the bits you've done, but it will work out as less mods than you think. I think mine was just interior mods as one (and this covered seats, stripping, steering wheel etc etc) then declare the cage after, and see if you can wangle it into interior mods.

Yea i used Flux before on a kit car i built when i was young. Rang them for insurance for my ph2 172. Good price but they couldnt insure my Girlfriend on it coz she hasn't been resident in the uk for 3 years yet. Doesn't matter now coz theres no way she would drive a car with no interior, Lol. Got 9 months to run on my current policy and im hoping they will cover the ph1

Just phoned my insurance company and i actualy get a refund! Ph1 being an older car and of less value.

They will insure me with the car in that state but will not cover/replace any non standard parts, Fair enuff.

Might keep it off road for abit. I dont desparetly need a car to use, its only a toy. Got some stuff i want to do to it first, but i will be along to a meet soon

Lol, she's not thai, I didn't order her online.

It will be my road car, but I'm not using it for work or general day to day stuff so it can be abit mental/anti social. Just in the process of changing the other car to a better/newer one for the other half to use for work & shopping, & for us for long journeys.

I went with HIC.

They're very mod-friendly, and aim for the enthusiast, even asking what mag subscriptions you've got, and what the last car show you went to was.

I've not done the seats/steering wheel thing yet, but will this year. It's already noted as a change for this year though at no extra cost. They're good like that.

Unlimited trackday cover included with only £500 excess if you've been out on track before as well.

All that for £389 in my case.

Bargain.

Chr1st! £500 from Tesco was the best I could get and they won't even talk to me if I say 'roll cage'! I'm a married 32 year old professional with a clean licence, full no claims and a garage in a low risk area so HIC will be getting a call soon...

Thanks Mark, they sound very good. Will have to consider them when current policy nears its end and before i do anymore mods

Most places won't talk to you if you say cage its shows or gives a good indication of what the cars driving styl is.

Specialists only realy. Loads of palces won't touch any mods on cars and a cage is realy the most expensive modification to get added to a policy as its massive risk and most brokers cannot cover.
