Intake tubing overlap

Was cleaning my K&N drop in & was surprised to see the air inlet pipe seems not to be attached and has a serious overlap where it meets the airbox - looks like only half the potential air is being taken in?

may be this is normal?!

if not, please could you suggest how to fix please

if it's normal then I reckon I'll look at v6 / Maxogen intake

thank you

It will fit in but it's a horrible design, then again the ph1 box wasn't the easiest to get into to change filters

it's a 182 mate, I can't seem to see how it will fit as the battery box is in the way?

Do you have the wrong size battery fitted?

I'll check mate & do a search on what size it should be, appreciate this, it does look like the pipe should click in with the small circular hole & matching part of intake pipe

may be a previous owner had an induction kit & fitted a larger battery

Yep, battery is about 3cm too long so explains the battery overlap!

I've ordered the Varta Silver (UK code 012) as it's the same highest spec (530CCA) as the Exide Premium but is 207mm v 212mm ( v about 240mm currently fitted!)

50% off atm @ ECP, so £65 should restore my engines breathing & performance as well as having a sweet new high spec battery with a 5 year guarantee :)

What's this intake pipe in front of the air intake pipe?? It also has similar tubing running under the airbox to that of the air intake tubing.

There's also an outlet (?inlet) hole at the back of the airbox; may be they connect?

What is it for?!

Thanks

You have 2 air inlet pipes to the airbox.
One from the side and one from underneath
One pipe runs down into the wheel arch and has the acoustic valve on the end the other just runs to a piece of the bodywork like in the pic and gets air from the area behind the headlight , next to the battery.
