interference engine?

a friend has a 2000 reg clio 1.4 (unsure if its 8v or 16v) but its a phase2.
the cambelt has snapped on it, but the question i ask is are these engines valve safe or is it likely to of bent the valves? i havent had a chance to take alook at it yet so after a heads up really

There's a fair number of engines that are non intereference. I has a subaru justy and the belt went on me at 90ish. New belt, done

I know of more valve safe engines than interference engines, just new to Renault

im a mazda mechanic and the mx5's are awesome. all the old 1.3-2.0 mazda petrol engines are valve safe (up to 2002). same with most vauxhall 8v engines. so far ive found that all renault engines are not valve safe lol
