Intermittent high idle problem- suggestions?

  BG 182 FF
As per the title My 182 has seemed to developed a high idling problem. So as usual I came onto CS and used the search bar to see if I could find a thread with the same symptoms as my car.

Having owned the car for nearly a year the problem has only appeared in the last 3 months. The car idles from anywhere between 1200rpm and this morning more like 2600rpm. The only common factors I can think of is that it always seems to happen after a period of rainfall- which would suggest that water is getting somewhere it's not meant to be. Of course this could be a wild goose chase and I'm certainly no expert.

And another thing- the belts were changed in March by a specialist and the problem has only arisen after this was done. Before then I never had an idling issue- could this be a factor?

As it is a 182 you can check for air leaks by taking the air feed off from the airbox to the throttle body and with the engine running put the palm of your hand over the intake to the TB. It should stall. If not, air is getting in from somewhere else and it is just a cast of checking the pipes and sensors that go into the intake manifold.

Also, check the manifold is secure. There's about 7 10mm bolts to check, 5 front I think and two rear. They do not need to be mega tight, over tightening may cause them to shear or strip threads.

If it's not secure, obviously it can leak air.

If it's not an air leak then your looking at an electrical fault. ECU, wiring or sensor.
