Intermittent Starting issue on 1.6 clio

My gf's 1.6 dynamic is having an annoying starting issue, its only started happening this last week. basically sometimes it starts and sometimes it wont, it will just sit there cranking over.

She had to call her recovery people out yesterday, but by the time he got to her, it started with first turn of the key, he said it could be the crank sensor/tdc sensor.

could this be the case or are there any other ideas?

as above, TDC, i find cleaning them solves it most of the time
