Iphone 3GS - if i downgrade software will i lose my contacts by restoring?

As the title says really, i've downloaded the new software which isnt really that great and its playing havoc when i plug my phone into my car ipod adapter saying its not recognised one minute then its fine the next.

Only worry is if i do a restore on my phone will it also delete my contacts list ?

Not if your sync'ing contacts from googlemail or Outlook.

No. They'll be part of your backup.
