iPhone in the enterprise environment using LDAP for the address book?

  Rav4
Hi guys,

Just wondering if you guys currently use LDAP for your iPhone address book queries and how you went about implementing it, if possible.

We will have around 50 iPhones, all managed through profile manager.

Our main environment is Windows, we are using Windows 2008 Enterprise for the DC that authenticated the users.

We aren't using the GAL list on Exchange (easiest method) as we have some in house/external exchange servers and are run by different companies.

We do have all users authenticating through AD though.

LDAP queries are working fine when it's running through plain text, for obvious reasons we want to encrypt it.

As soon as we are running LDAP over SSL, either internal or external on the iPhone or Mac Mini, it doesn't work, we have only tested it with self assigned certificates but I believe this would be the same for third party certificated.

There is an application on iOS that enables the LDAP query that we want, but there is a cost associated it and it's a lot of messing around.

If anyone can assist, that would be great. Apple are looking into it, but not sure anything positive will come out of it as they are telling us simply not to encrypt it or use a third party application.

Thanks very much,

G.
