IPod 3rd Gen 20gb wont charge

Ive just bought a new battery for it as i thought it was completely dead, but it still wont charge, my computer recognises it when i plug it in to the usb, and i can access the hard drive, but i dont see the batter icon charging.....

Anyone know why?
