iPod not holding charge

My friends got one of the new nanos and as soon as it's plugged in it starts that charge process. Even after being left on charge for a few hours as soon as it's disconnected it switches off and then displays the apple logo then switches off again.

She has only had it a couple of months. It seems like it's not holding charge.

Will apple replace it?

They should replace it if it's faulty and less than a year old.
