Ipod Solutions

 SLK 350
Hi there,

Looking for a viable solution to hardwire my 3G Ipod into the standard 172 ICE, and maintain the stork control and the dash display. Been looking at the Dension Ice Link Plus but wondered if anybody had any experience of this solution, and if so how they rate it. Also looking to locate the cheapest price (£140 odd thus far).

Or if anybody else has other ideas of how to go about it im all ears, but i'm not keen on using iTrips or any other FM based stuff as the quality just isn't there.

Cheers all :)

I tried a denison unit and it worked fine - both in my scenic (in a preious life), and in my 172 (current life...) In the end, I have just changed my audio set-up in my car - replacing the standard headunit for a new Pioneer DEH-P70BT and a Pioneer iPod adaptor unit from CarAudioSecurity.com - £325ish for both. This set-up works lovely too! HTH. Genius.

Have you sorted anything out for your iPod yet mate?
I've just got a 172 cup & have been looking/asking of ways to connect mine to the existing stereo too.
Have you heard of something called 'Connects 2'? i just asked in Halfords about connecting the iPod & they mentioned this, i didn't know the model No. for my clio stereo so couldn't get an exact price but they reckon'd on about £120.

I've just been looking on the net now & found this (not too sure whether this is the right thing mind you?)

Other than Halfords, other Stereo shops have been trying to sell me a new stereo, plus iPod adapter, then when i ask about stalk controls.. thats another addition!! and it's starting to get very expensive. I would go down the route of an alpine stereo & all the gear but past experiences with f***ing thieves have sort of put me off changing anything in the car!

Let me know if you find anything else

Cheers

@Norris - Haven't managed to find any other real viable solutions mate barring the IceLink when it comes to being fully compatible with OE stereo. Like you im not willing to change my stereo and lose the 'standard' look and the stalk/display functionality. Then theres the criminal element as you mentioned. Also im more than happy with the quality the OE stereo supplys which again brings me back to the Dension.

The adaptor you highlight would be ok i think, but im guessing you wouldn't get full iPod integration into the system with that alone, for example probably having to change the tracks via the iPod itself as opposed to using the stalk. And theres the case then of where to mount it without it looking shady.

It would appear that its a case of £150 for the proper job and being gone with it, because frankly im getting fed up of staring at my iPod on my window sill, and im bored of changing CD's. In retrospect i wish the OE stereo was a tape player, that was i could use my £5 tape adaptor and continnue to use it as i did in my old 1.2.

@Black Gold - Ive visited that site before, they seem ok but was looking for a cheaper site somewhere. That said the prices seem to be stable at all outlets being within £5 of each other.

@Genius - Does that mean then that you have an IceLink kit for sale? If so please PM me.

Thanks all for contributing.

I think i'm gonna have to bite the bullet too :-( I'm fed up of staring at my 'hardly ever used' iPod aswell! lol & i too have the cassette adapter from my old car, now the missus has her eye on the 'pod as she has a cassette in her pug.. god damn it.
(i'm still loving the cup though :)
I've sent an e-mail enquiring about the connector in the link so i'll see what they have to say about it, but i'm not holding out for much with that one really.
We shall see..

Here's the replay from that link mate, so looks like thats no good without an additional part. Oh well. Worth a try hey!

"Hi,

This unit allows a Sony CD changer to be plugged through the facoty stereo, not an iPod.

If you only need an iPod interface that would be a separate part..."

I got the Desion kit fitted in my 182. Doesn't work perfect though. Either takes two track skips to move forward one, or it moves back a track for each press. Think this is prob due to the slight dif between standard Clio HU and the one fitted in the CS'.

Can't get how to post pics so here's some links instead:

You can see the Connects2(?) adapter in the first pic. One of these cost about £40 anyhow - which just gives function of an AUX in. Worth the rest of the cash for the Dension to get control and auto mute/pause when you switch off or recieve a phone call (also got Nokia CK-7W)

d_182 - where have you routed the cable mate?

I;ve got the exact same setup as you and I've got it going trhough a gap in the cup holders. Also, how did you attach the dension cradle to the brodit proclip? I screwed mine which meant the threads stick out the back of the clip...
