They are different, unless it's a Cup with climate

Nope cup alternator is 75A, air con models use a 110A alternator.

they are also physically different, the brackets where the tensioner attaches is in a different place, and the body of the cup alt is smaller

Thanks chaps, need a new alternator for my 172 cup as battery light and stop light is on, and the alternator is getting red hot and making a funny smell
