is it difficult to change a sterring wheel on a phase 1 172 ?

no.
10 minute job fella.
disconnect the batt
two small screws at the back of the wheel release the airbag.
unclip airbag.
1 x torx 30 in the centre.
...repeat in reverse.

the Mk2 has a 2-stage airbag computer. the Mk1 has a single deployment system. i.e in smaller crashes the airbag isn't deployed as harshly.
you can't 'trick' the systems either.
plus the connections are not the same as a result.
you could technically fit one. but the airbag would be just for show.
get yourself a 172 exclusive item like mine. (full blue leather)
