I can't give you an example - it depends on conditions, traffic, weather, road surface etc...

Appropriate driver training also helps.

why do all these bloody threads end up in a shitty debate about the legality of stuff its not gunna make a difference what you say so if you aint got anything to comment on appropriate then stop trying to be the worlds policeman

In my experience all speedo's over read.
In my Clio 1.2 16v it did 112 jelly babies on the clock, this was 106 gps.
The Lupo does 138 jelly babies on the clock, 132 gps. Neither of these was on the limiter but probably not far off.

138 jelly babies was showing on the GPS in Germany on the way to the Nurburgring... much to the amusement of a German Audi driver who couldnt stop laughing and waving at us after all 3 of us slowed down lol

138 on the GPS looked more like 145 on the speedo, which my mate was looking at while i s**t myself driving!

Its good having these top speeds but to be honest you dont really need more than 120 (would be nice to have a 6th gear and slightly shorter ratios on the 182,172s)

i very rarely need any more than 90 tbh, but its nice knowing there's more if you need it.

i like jelly babies.

Pah your obviously not an avid fan of the Bridge test ;)

Ooooh i am... 120 jelly babies easy. It was the slowing down afterwards that scared me! lol

Lol, yeah the slowing down is abit undernerving especially as it goes into a 40 zone as well at the end which isn't good for the licence if your braking from the upper jelly baby scale!

mine pulls to the limiter fine takes a bit of time over 120 but keeps pulling steadily (spelling?), theres a good twisty runway arround here on my way home with a good straight on it and i hit the limiter nearly every time!

well not these days due to the weather and road conditions but in the summer...

It would take a genuine 200 bhp (at the flywheel) to do a genuine 145 mph.
Nope stock good engine can hit the 7.2k limiter which is about 144mph.

Speedos are a bit inaccurate but realy best gauge is hitting the limiter in top or GPS readout and adverages in both directions to account for hills etc.

Rubbish.

A Clio Mk2 Ph2 172, the shortest geared of all of them, is geared to 20.4 mph/1000 rpm in 5th. So the rev limiter, 7200 rpm, is at 146.8 mph. Every test of them said they'd do 138 mph standard. Getting to 146.8 would require 20.37% more power. That would be 207 bhp at the flywheel, 35 more than standard. The idea that all it takes is a "good" standard engine to get 207 bhp is nonsense.

The only way a standard Clio Sport is going to get to the rev limiter is if the rev limiter is coming in at 6700 rpm. Wait, hold on, they do when they're cold. Right?

Have you tried maxing out your car?

I think nearly every petrol head has tried maxing their cars, 136 on the GPS for the 182, 126 GPS on the wifes 138 but 6th gear is so long it was reving at 5.5k lol

Ive had mine at a dial indicated 145 leptons on the M5 playing with a 200sx on the way to cornwall at 4am. Road angel was indicating 136 leptons.

Exactly the same here, I've had mine on the limiter in 5th in Germany

145mph on the speedo
136mph on the TomTom GPS

Lol I'm sure you just sit around waiting for a chance to spout all these figures.Everyone knows for a fact that the variance between engines is huge! Std 172 getting 14.6 sqm and others with mods getting a second slower so not sure how you can accuratly quote bhp. Obviously the official test results would have been on the flat and maybe with a passenger and a full tank...the people hitting the limiter in 5th would probably be down hill with an empty tank and poss on their own.

Hell, I've hit the limiter in my 1.4 16v in 5th. f**k knows about speed, I was too busy keeping it on the road and judging when the Civic inhead was gonna brake-test me, as they normally do.

Is remapped though.
