is t-cut really that good?

  clio mk2 p1 1.4 16v
i read on the back of some t-cut that it takes the pigment from your paint and spreads it into the very small surface impurities leaving it very shiny and non swirly... however i thorght that to get to the pigment in the paint that you would have to get under the laquer and with t-cut being an abrasiv would this remove the laquer compleatly... how does this work and is it really good to your paint?

T-cut if used sparingly can be ok. I've actually seen it used to ver good effect on old bodywork and also to remove tar etc on bodywork.

Just gotta make sure that if you t-cut the paint you make sure you put a layer of wax on top.

I'd imagine that if you used it too much or too harshly it would remove the lacquer. But to remove tar/bugs, use it sparingly and it should effect it. From my experience anyway.

On solid colours t-cut will brighten up faded paint work. Won't work with metallic or pearlescent paint though due to having laquer.

If your car has clearcoat and swirls they will be in the clearcoat, so in theory it will remove them there is no reason why T Cut can not be used on lacquer.

As said if the paint is faded on a clearcoat finish, it can not be restored as single stage paint can be. Though the fact it is lacquered means it should slow down fading.

As for the T Cut it is old fashioned out dated and a little bit poo. Unlike modern polishes which start off with cut and break down and become a finishing polish as you work them, T Cut stays harsh all the time meaning in most cases it leaves in very fine swirls when removing the deeper ones. This means you need to use a milder polish after to remove the marks T Cut puts in.

Newer products like Megs Scratch X mean that you can use them and leave a nicer finish.
