Is the 172 Mk2's Gear shift light an option ?

I have just been having a scan on ebay at 172/182 parts and thought i'd have a look to see what the 172's were going for and saw this on.

Its says in the description that it has a it has a shift light that cost an extra £1000 by the last owner :S

Is this true?

As i didn't think they were and option and if they were a £1000 sounds steep.

They have shift lights? What rpm do they come on etc? I just put a deposit on a phase2 172 yesterday didnt notice a shift light?

tbh, I think its badly written, hes trying to say the extra kits is worth 1k, not the shift light. lol

Comes on a few hundred rpm before where the limiter is set at that time! When fully warmed i think the light comes on at 7kish...

Yes, in order to get that light to come on you'd have to be thrashing the bollox out of the car.

I don't know about anyone else, but to me above 5k (well before the light comes on) in a standard 172 sounds awful.
